OK so I'm thinking of getting a wood stove to heat a 16 x 40 room in a pole barn I'm building, the room will be well insulated, 9 ft ceiling. I've lurked on here some already, and it sounds like maybe a NC may be the way to go, I was looking US stoves, but sounds like the NC is better, any way would the 30 be too big for that size room, I would like it big enough that I could get an overnight burn if need be. By the way I can already see this could become my new addiction, as if coon hunting, trapping, cattle, coaching football, and a full time job isn't enough..lol
Welcome to the club, J Dub! Sounds like you have a solid plan, all I will add at this time is for you to be sure you get a stove that's big enough to handle the space you have. You can always build smaller quick fires if the stove is too big, but when the stove is too small it can be a pain to run it....... By the sounds of it, you'll fit right in around here!
Welcome to FHC J Dub . Your story reminds me of another fella with a similar story not too long ago. He also had a room in a pole barn he was looking to heat. I believe he was also building a his house nearby and needed the room in the pole barn as temp put up. The nc 30 would be a decent size for this space, it's better to go big than go too small and not have enough. Concrete floors?
Well, I run 1.5 cu.ft. stoves in here to heat 1000 sq.ft. and it's not insulated too good in some of the walls. These cat stoves will easily go overnight, though...
Yes it will have concrete floor, I appreciate the replies, I've always wanted a wood stove, but my wife is a worrier, and was afraid of burning the house down. Now I finally get my own shed and I can do what I want, any idea what the insurance people will say about it, I haven't checked that yet
Welcome to the forum J Dub. One has to check with his own insurance company and also any township or city codes for the pole barn. But so long as nothing flameable is stored in it then it should be okay. Good luck.
