Dittos. I'm in the healthcare field and because of ObamaCare I can't wait to get out.

Our own deductible was unaffordable last year. Our deductible pretty much relegates our cost prohibitive health insurance plan to a catastrophic plan this year. We can't afford to get sick with these outrageous deductibles. And they had the unmitigated gall to call it the "Affordable" Care Act? Bastages!

Ok I'll shut up now before I get banned or cause another thread to get locked...

Wildwest I feel your pain! I have some uncovered issues and the last one wiped out our main savings account.... It cost $$$$$$$$$ for a visit to the hospital last time. We sold everything extra we didn't need to pay for it and thank goodness we have no other debt or we wouldn't have made it.

Go to the doc or hospital on the cost if you need to they will usually lower it to at cost if you make it known you simply can't afford the cost! I recently had a bill for $21,000 and after I went and talked to the hospital I got it dropped to $3,400 they really want there cost and will work with you to be sure they get it normally.

Just be sure we don't go political guys...

Two Anthem Blue Cross reps we talked to a couple months back said clearly and definately... the reason our insurance went up $300/month (now $838.69) was because of new costs and regulations from the Affordable Care Act. We too, have to have the catastrophic plan Brian ($15k deductable) as we couldn't even come close to affording any of the other plans at our ages, 60 & 61.

So... there it is... no political discussion even needed... ;)

Office visit used to run me about $100-120, now it is $350-525 per 15 min. visit. God help ya if any kind of procedure is done as those are separate charges on top of that. Those $5 tongue depressors must be about $100 ea. now.

I dumped our old insurance through work, and got insurance through the marketplace for cheaper and less up front costs, than before. Better insurance with less cost to us. I can't complain.

My local bank (big one here in wi) got nailed for putting through charges at certain opportune ( for them) times to get NSF fees. Nice huh?

Thanksgiving weekend 2013 lil one came down with an ear infection and high fever. With her rising fever and no where else to go we went to the er. Almost $2K later in bills, she was much better after antibiotics.......:zip:

I am glad they did a full work up on her to rule out more serious things, but I just paid a $400 copay to give birth only a few years ago. I don't get it.

If this insurance issue doesn't get ammended and/or rewritten I can see the general public making a big stink, enough of a stink that it could get ugly. It's a shame O$@/a put his name on it.

Did you have to input personal information before getting a quote on the price?

I saw an interesting post about tagging capital gains with a penalty percent.

I'm not sure I follow you. Capital gains in itself is a payment for a penalty ( so to speak)

Pretty sure we did. I let my wife do the work on the insurance swap. I was busy cutting wood or some other yard/ house work. :). I just know the details, and it saved us $$ and got better insurance.

    Apologies, I confused the post.

Make sure you have health insurance in the year of sale. In a couple years, the penalty will be a 3% tax on your income for not having coverage. Not good in a windfall year.

I left a bank a long time ago for the same thing. Bank covered one big payment and bounced 4 small ones. $120 in bank fees in one day. wasn't going to happen twice!

got to love the banking industry, they process checks in about a 24 hr period electronically, but it takes 2 weeks to get notified if someone passed bad paper. Then your on the hook for whatever- insult to injury. Guarantee Bank did that to me. A company defaulted on a $755 bill- in the mean time after about a week of depositing that check I had paid bills and such total of 14 checks. I had overdraft protection but still they charging me $75/per chk I wrote which just compounded things all over a weekend. 1 pm is about the cut off to get deposits posted same day. I had made a deposit well over the amount Fri. night course not posted till Monday sometime ( at that point I didn't know about the bad paper). So of course they started pulling $1050 for their fees out of my account. Just about burned the place down I was so .......... hot. I did make a big enough stink over several days to get most of the fees back, never could collect on the dead beat. Pulled all the accounts from that bank, but they are all the same.

Note if you get a ck returned to you for ISF you call the banking group it was written on and keep checking to see if there is enough in the account to cover the chk, then when there is you go with the chk asap, in person, to one of the branches and get it cashed, they will likely charge ya something but at least you will get some 90% of it. This is the only way I know to sometimes beat the system as the banks will auto redeposit a ISF ck - (never seen one get paid that way). This is one reason to never accept a check that does not have a branch in you area.

Glad you got the fees refunded. I had a similar issue not long after I got married. Long story short, my wife and I had a misunderstanding as to who was going to deposit my paycheck (before direct deposit was popular), and by the time it got deposited and cleared, two debit card purchases (tank of gas and some fast food junk if I remember correctly) went NSF, as those cleared before the deposit posted. I had overdraft protection, but I found that they only withdraw from a savings account, not a money market account. At that time, savings was paying 1% or something like that and money market account was paying around 4%, so the savings account only had the $100 minimum while everything else was in the money market account.

I got the fees refunded after convincing them that the money was there but one computer beat another to the finish line, I'd been a customer for years and never had an issue previously, and the bank across the street was giving away free toasters to new clients, and I kinda wanted a new toaster.

I fixed that issue by having 'money that doesn't exist' in the checking account. I'm old school and still write transactions in a check register (even though I pay 95% of bills online) and that is the balance we go by, not what the bank says. The checkbook balance is quite a bit lower than the account balance. Haven't had a problem since.

yep been doing the short cash balance for years on checking accounts just because of their nasty habit of posting debits first and then deposits. Took a bit before I figured that trick out though, as the statements are not time stamped only the date. Drove me a bit up the wall when something wouldn't clear and I had put a deposit in to cover it ( same day or night before). Another hint if ya know your trying cover a check that is over your balance, deposit cash not another check, as the processing delay will eat you every time.

When I was younger I would round everything off in my checking account. Down for deposits and up for withdraws of course. My wife (girlfriend at the time) hated that but I always had extra money. She does the bill keeping now so I don't do this anymore. I was meticulous about checking statements to make sure there was no goofy stuff on them too.
