Totally agree with you! If your "local" dealer isn't offering a discounted price and/or some "value added service," then, obviously, the internet is your best friend. I stress this very point to all of my trainees every day. It's the reality of the every marketplace these days.

Order if I can get free or reasonable priced shipping.
Ordered 10 last time I had a good shipping price, good for several years now,
    Got 20", 5 ea of 72LPX-72 & 72LGX-72 for $15 ea.

Have a Saw part shop close, that sells oregon LPX ( $22).
& another that sells Sthil RS ($30) if needed.

You guys out west can get stuff a LOT cheaper than we can here at the dealers in the midwest and east from my experience. Stihl, either corporate or distributers, set prices. According to my local dealer, ANY stihl dealer selling on Ebay can and will have their dealership pulled along with all of their current stock if they are reported. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT Name your sources on an open forum or you run the risk of getting your supplier in trouble.

Personally, I find it REALLY lame of them to do. The price I'm currently paying for RSC loops is way less than my dealer says he pays for it on the roll. New saws around here are the same way. You may get them to throw in a chain or some premix but the price will not be discounted.

The internet has now changed the way I shop for things. Once you find a place that will give a discount, for your own sake and theirs, keep it a private message thing.

Local Stihl shop is pretty fair.
I have also ordered from Frawleys Saw Shop. Prices are good and service is great!

My hometown hardware store is an Echo dealer, and stocks rolls of Carlton chain. I like to give them my business whenever I can.

Last I bought on ebay from Jim Goodall tree service out of FL. I think all the sizes from 14"-25" end up costing $14. Some forester some oregon I think? It was like $6 to ship all and that price I quoted included the shopping factored already. They even threw in a free scrench for me !!

The chains I got were good priced.

I also buy my chains from Frawleys, good prices and good service and the shipping doesn't kill you. Usually buy 6 or 7 at a time, helps on the freight.

I think the last stihl I about a year ago was $25ish. It was round chisel...idiots told me all they had in 20" loops was semi skip??? Think that chain is still somewhere not open actually?

Pricing always has, and will be for the foreseeable future, set by the individual dealer. MSRP/DSRP are just that: "Suggested". Stihl doesn't give a rip what you sell the parts/saws for as long as you paid their price.

I usually get mine from my local stihl dealer. I get a decent break at 3 chains and then at 6 chains. Funny, here, they where closed, so I decided to go to another new stihl dealer thats part farm store. I almost fell into a state of shock when he told me his prices.

Online Mom and Pop. Order 10 or more and get sizable discount.
20" LP chisel for $11 or $12 and shipping is less than $1/loop.

Local Stihl dealer because the .063 chains still have 1990's price tags and are covered in dust in a drawer;)

Our local hardware store is a Stihl dealer...they steal your money for their chains. 25" RSC is $35-$36 with tax. No thanks!!! Been buying Carlton by the roll from local guy. Last one was $250 and he put about 20 loops together for me at that price. :)
