Ok, I despreately need( or maybe just really want) a bigger saw. Right now all I have in a MS250 with a 18inch bar. Good saw but I need bigger bar, more power. I really try not to cut anything over 2ft in diameter so I was thinking a 310 with a 20inch bar for everyday use and a 25inch with a skip tooth chain for big wood. What does everyone think and do I buy new or used?

:coffee:...what is your price range? Do you want to stick to Stihl? Cause they will influence your ultimate decision. A 310 is good saw, don't get me wrong. But there are better buys, or better bang for your bucks.

I think a a 70cc pro saw would knock your socks off. And be about as big as you will ever need if you stay away from 24"+ trees.

I'm partial to the 441 myself and it is the last stop under $1000 with Stihl.

If your CAD is in overdrive and you are ok with buying used, you could outfit yourself quite nicely with 2-3 more saws for similar money. But the heart wants what it wants and if new is what your after.........

Under 1 grand.....441 sounds perfect. I think you'd be very happy with that saw. If you want to stick with a cheaper farm/ranch stihl, the 391 would be alright. But I think you'd like the 441 much better for big wood

A 261 or 362 would both be a heck of a step up from a 250 but so would the 311 or 391.I guess it depends on what you really want to spend but all those saw are well under 1000.00.

I have a really nice ported 2172 (same as 372 x-torq) that I'll take $700 for. I have it listed in the classified section... just sayin'.

If you want new, I would suggest a 562xp/555.
