Gas life question

What's the general rule you guys use for gas/mix life span, before you dump it and go to the pump for fresh gas?

Would you guys use gas you mixed up three weeks ago? Just wondering how long you guys go before getting fresh?

 

I make 5 gal. of mix at a time. Sometimes it will last me 2 weeks, sometimes 6. Never had a problem.

 

Most all of the oil mixes that I've seen lately say they also contain fuel stabilizer. I would run that 3 week gas and I don't think you'd have any problems. I've run mixed saw gas as long as 3 months after I initially mixed it with no problems.

 

Thanks! I'll use it and not give it a 2nd thought. Last time I went cutting was December 12th have some mix left yet. Thought I read somewhere gas can start to turn in as little as two weeks, IDK I'll just run it and not think about it.

Its been below zero here, been to cold....but its supposed to get in the 30's end of the week & weekend, the saws are itching to get out of the living room. Temp last night was -20 without the wind chill

 

Ethanol gas can go bad in 2 weeks. I've seen it happen. If it's e free then 3 months is usually safe.

 

Non-E gas mix, up to a year for me, but usually run through it much quicker than that.

 

I don't use e gas at all just premium gas.

 

Is ethanol not in premium gas?

 

A lot of premium has ethanol. Ya have to hunt for the E-free stuff...

Thanks, I knew I read that somewhere, but forgot the detail about ethanol vs E free. Problem is I read so much sometimes I forget all the little details, when the times comes to remember. Thanks!

 

There are two stations in town, one has 91 E free, the other 87 E free. I've been running 91 E free since it said something in the stihl owners manual about 91 or better. But I have read on the forums, that some run 87 because it gives a more efficient combustion. maybe I should switch over and start running 87, since I can get it E free??

 

If it has ethanol us a fuel stabilizer like "stabil" (even if you 2 cycle oil has some in it)
Ethanol fuel, 2 - 3 weeks if in a saw , several months if in a good sealed can.


I have 2 - 1 gallon jugs,
Thru cutting season, I mix 1 gallon at a time.
When it's gets close to empty, I mix a new one.
(book calls for 50:1, I mix near 40:1)

Lucky here though, no ethanol.
