Had to disconnect my OAK last night due to high winds. Roughly 30 MPH winds seem to suck the air right out of my stove and you can hear the vacuum switch 'click' as the vacuum drops below the set point. I haven't seen it bad enough to fault the controller, But it sure kills the stoves heat as it stops the auger feed until the vacuum builds back up to a suitable level.

Here's a pic of my OAK inlet for show and tell. I stepped it down to 3" but it still looks like I'm going to have to try something else on the inlet. I'll take any idea's on what might work better in the windy days.

What size is your vent piping? Only asking as the Harman thimble I believe only takes 3" piping but the air intake is positioned in a way that I have not had any issues since install.

ETA-here is one from ICC that appears very similar in design but will accommodate 4" pipe

Its 4" PVP. I might look into the PVP thimble with OAK inlet.

My oak is three inches but my stoves intake I think is four. Since there is this size difference I just kind of have my oak lying within the intake. I guess this naturally takes care of any drastic pressure changes since i have never noticed a difference in operation.

How about fabing a small piece of sheet metal that maybe covered a third of that vertically? Something like this:

I can stick a piece of tin on it and give it a whirl. I'll let ya know the next windy day we get.

I may also try to extend the shrouding(down) to cover more of the inlet.

That would figure, Since I fixed the leaky gutter that used to drip on the vent cap. I need a new noise to keep me awake at night! o_O

You can try a piece of aluminum tape instead of fabbing a piece of tin. You can call it a NASCAR OAK. It's kinda like the way they cover parts of the radiator opening with tape to help the cars!

My Enerzone was tripped the other day (we had 50 mph winds). I wasn't surprised though. My vent faces south, and the wind came from the west. Came up with a blocked flue shutdown (stove tells you everything and kinda self trouble shoots.

Covering your inlet looks like it may work? Although that thimble may be best?

How about a "cover" that goes over the whole thing, with some holes around the base.....maybe one of those foam hose bib freeze protectors. Should deflect the wind around to the sides.

I thought about using that on my OAK inlet for those Nor' easters that blow right at it.

That surprises me. Aside from the caps being different does you termination look like this one Don posted in his thread?

Yeah, same end, but different end cap.

It said a it had a blocked flue, so It is likely that it wasn't the intake. But rather the wind stopping the exhaust.

I have the same cap as Dex has and haven't had a problem yet. Mine gets blasted by the wind too because it is pointed in the direction that the wind is blowing from.
