Here in Rhode Island the cold weather seems to have finally set in.
Hasn't got above freezing last couple of days and the small Lopi Patriot just cant keep up.
Had to fire up the big stove today, once that Defiant starts cooking the cat gets very happy.
Hope fully not for very long with the Ideal steel scheduled for January 19.

Right where I want to be.
Can't wait to see your new IS sitting there.
Do you plan to downsize the flue system?

Great new Chestnut , you will be pleasantly surprised when the IS takes it's place in center court.
As papadave said, are you downsizing your flue to 6"

To make it a quick switch over the plan is to use the existing Dura vent 8" for the rest of the season, already have the 6 to 8 adapter.
After that I will have to look at options, don't really want to rip open the roof and replace.
The pipe is 30 years old but in great shape I usually only get about a softball size bag of creosote out of it each year.
So I don't Know I guess, is running a 6 " liner down it appropriate and what sort of adapters would there be?
Any info or ideas are welcome, At Woodstock they said it could work with the 8 vent.
Its 14 degrees out here this morning, got her loaded with 24" long by 8" splits, 3 year seasoned white pine .
    Very toasty in here now.

I have heard of folks running a 6" liner down through a 8" chimney. You say the pipe is 30 yrs old, what condition is it in after all those years? Worst case, reline the sections that go from the ceiling up through the roof to the cap only and just add a new 6" flue pipe from the stove to the thimble. At the least it's peace of mind knowing the 6" liner is new within the older 8".
If WS says it's ok to use the 8" existing then maybe you can run that for awhile and see how the drafts works and go from there.

Pipes all good its a straight shot about 15 feet.
When I am done sweeping I always look down with a flash light,Its nice and shiny no wrinkles or cracks.
The Defiant is a well behaved stove, never had her go into run away.
I am more concerned with the draft and its performance for the IS and its cat.
The IS is my first cat stove, just going to wing it this first season.

I'd consider using 6" stove pipe to the ceiling with the 6-8" increaser.
Curious how the stove will work with the larger pipe.
    Only 19 days to go!:dancer:
