White/Bur Oak (All around me but rarely cut any that isn't dead, only about 20% of my yearly cutting total)
Honey Locust (When I can get it)
    Mulberry (Fairly plentiful around here)
Shagbark Hickory (Lots of it,but only cut dead/dying ones)
Apple (Rare to see it once every 5 yrs at best)
Red/Black Oak (70% of my yearly total, cleaning up snags/deadfall keeps me busy)

I use to say White Ash but we had so much of it around that's all I got for years due to EAB. A few years ago I got a load of Oak, most Red. Now that's it's seasoned I have to say I like it more than the White Ash. If I had a burner that gave longer burning times I might have a different answer. I like when I can sit around the fire and relax to burn uglies. When I want a pretty fire nothing but nothing beats Green Ash. The fire from a Green Ash belongs in a magazine:) Next year I will try some Hickory. I have my first couple cord that's been sitting a couple years and next year should be ready to go. Will I change my favorite?

Formerly, and for many of my 40 years of burning wood, it was Hedge. Now, White Oak.

Oak, Hickory, Mulberry, Locust, in no particular order, however they come, especially if already down and easy to get to.

Cherry, Ash, Maple, Walnut, in no particular order, being secondary woods, and mostly burned when I'm home.

Sycamore, Boxelder, Catalpa, Elm, Pine, in no particular order, as with secondary woods, burned when I'm home and/or when I need to run a lightweight load.

    Buckthorn, of course.
Followed by lilac, ash, and shagbark hickory. Apple is good, too.

Shagbark Hickory for me. The only buckthorn we have is smaller as it's invasive and not native. It's spreading pretty quickly though. Does buckthorn really burn nicely?
