Split up some white oak today

    Had to clear some room for parking cars, so I cut a little on my tree man load out front. This split pile was from 8 big rounds. Ended up doing one more and a couple smaller rounds and ended up with around 1/2 cord :)

    Good job and great pics, bb48. What do you think fresh white oak smells like? I really enjoy the scent of it, some say kinda like vanilla. I like it, but can't quite pinpoint what it smells like.
    You must be wearing a 'scope for aim that good...

    I like it. Not quite as strong a smell as red oak, so lots of people like white's scent better. I love that pungent red oak smell though. But I'm weird :D

    I enjoy sniffing fresh splits too, my wife catches me doing it all the time and thinks I'm weird.

    I do that as well! Smelling wood can also be helpful in IDing so there is a practical reason :rofl: :lol:

    Smells good, splits ok if you get at it soon after bucked up,

    White oak is primo stuff :thumbs:

    Good work,
    you're pretty good with the axe,
    bet it warmed up up for the first time, &
    it will warm you up again when burned :) :)

    Nice works of Art there! Thats a heck of a block of oak...May have to give it a few more minutes to dry out though...:rofl: :lol:... But I too love smelling my wood, especially Red Oak. Cant say that I've smelt White Oak... Keep up that gooder work!

    Dad calls red oak "diaper wood". He thinks a fresh cut or split smells like diapers. It sure don't smell like diapers when it burns though ;)

    Worked on the pile a little more today. Got all the big logs cut and split, other than a small pile of stubborn knotty pieces that will be noodled later :D


    Don't mind the mule load the wagon right?
