With my work schedule, wet- muddy conditions and the holidays it's been almost a month since I've been able to get any wood cut. It's 5am got the saws on the truck ready to head to the farm gonna get some chips fly'n one way or the other today.
The first 2 pics are of my intended target for today but I was 1 chain short of being able to reach it. So I settled for this one in the pasture, got most of it hauled up to the splitter but the mud thawed out to much and I was ripping everything up sliding and spinning so called it a day around 11am had guests coming over this afternoon so had to quit early anyway. It was still a great morning in the woods.
Looks like you had some hilly terrain to contend with, good thing you had the tractor. Can't imagine all that work with no machine to help. Enjoyed the pics
Not much flat land on this place. Did see a lot of these guys flying around and sitting in the trees though, not a real good feeling.
I cut 2 loads today in the National Forest, my son helped me on the second. Forgot the camera so maybe it didn't actually happen! Today was an almost perfect day to be in the woods though. Going to try to get out there again tomorrow. Wife and kids think I'm more obsessed than usual but cool weather, no rain, no snow, no bugs sounds like wood-cutting weather to me!
I hear ya on that, Driver - rain or work or mud or it's always something. Today here was a perfect day to slice up extra large rounds full of internal branches and knots. Gonna call my day "oodles of noodles". Like your saw and tractor. The second set of pics shows quite a hefty collection of rounds, nice hoard goin' there...
Man it looks like you had a lot of fun Suggestion for making the longer pulls: I use the 3/8" synthetic steel rope . A couple 50' / 100 pieces & a clevise or shackle to splice them when needed. Easy to carry, strong & no stretch. . 17,000 lb strength http://www.amsteelblue.com/amsteel-blue-3-8-synthetic-winch-extension-17-600-lbs/ Other brands out there too.
Thanks bd I've thought of something like that but just never pursued it but after today I think I will, there are quite a few more trees like this but this was the one I could get closest to so I'm gonna need something to reach them. Thanks for the info.
