First off, I'm not as dumb as this is going to me me sound!! I read that it was a good idea to clean your chimney while it was still warm so I climbed up on the roof with my new $34 polypro 8" brush and ran it down the chimney pipe I just "got warm" by burning a little cardboard. Ran the 8" brush about 4' down and brought it up to take a look and got to see that my brush is now half the size!!
I'd be a lot more worried about your burn temps if this had happened with a good old fashion wire brush
Heh, I'll be getting up on the roof and running my brush down the chimney early this week so Santa can deliver his gifts. My brush is wire though.
I think I read a couple accounts of them getting stuck too! I wonder if that was because of the same reason?
To remove if stuck in pipe just a short snort of heat is required to soften things to break them loose. Do not use a slow burn fuel like lighter fluid. A couple gallons of gasoline should be sufficient to provide a little flash of heat. For safety reasons use a delay fuse. Lay a candle across the bucket of gas. Light candle and close door. When it melts back to the edge of the bucket the lit end will fall into gasoline and provide ignition. You should be outside at this point. Sweep and brush will dislodge as would a blow gun and dart. Watch to see if you get a bulls eye.....on the moon! WOOF...TO THE MOON ALICE!
Surprised it melted so fast, must be pretty soft plastic. Will it fit a 6" pipe OK now ? Got any Pictures ?
Maybe, it is still laying on the porch where I threw it to when I had a temper tantrum after seeing what I did. I`ll try to get you some tonight...
Yep hot air will curl a brush fiber in seconds. My dad had a push broom that was half curly because he used it to put out a small fire.
