In no particular order. Got a nice row of cherry split up. It smells nice in that part of the barn right now. Have added almost a full row of red maple in front of the cherry, but no pic so it hasn't really happened. Got into a cluster of smaller standing dead read and white oak.
I got into that leaner in the third picture and look what I found a big old european hornet. We call them bell hornets here in Virginia
Great pictures & awesome stacks Nice load of prime firewood Nice day to be in the woods ! Have a hang-up on the last one & have to pull the base back, looks like it's laying on the stump ?
Took another red oak down that got interesting. It had a Y low down and one side fell fine. The other one caught a branch on the way down and broke in half and the top kicked back towards me, but I was well out of the way when it happened. Good half Bad half Couple of the many truck loads.
That one fell on its own. The hornet was in the base. I ended up dragging it down, but it was mostly rotten and I only got a little bit out of it.
More nice pics Wonder if that's a queen, wintering over in the rotten log. ? In the spring , wake up & start a new hive ?
That was my take on it. I have taken down big dry standing dead oaks with hundreds of wasps in the the cracks and crevices hibernating the winter away till I rudely interrupted them.
Nice work. I love cutting dead stuff That beech will make some primo firewood, I'm a big fan of that stuff
