Here is a pic of my Echo GT-1100 weed whacker.. Think it's around 20 years old.. Ran it today for 3+ hours.. It started on 3rd pull cold then one pull after that.. Only things replaced is the trigger (I broke it hitting a 2x4"), fuel lines and primer bulb because they deteriorated after 15 years. Still original plug and air filter lol! Weed whacked entire garden with high grass close to 5' tall then other areas.. Ran great!

Just give him a call and he can answer that. He has all of that stuff in stock usually.

I'm normally more of a stihl guy but I have a cs 400 and its a really nice 40cc saw,I liked it better then what stihl offered at that basic size and price range(ms211/ms250).it weighs around 10 lbs bar n chainless I believe but has a nice balance to it with the 18 inch bar it came with.I use mine for a lot of smaller stuff and trimming\limbing.I paid around 300 for it new and have had it about 3 or 4 years now and never had any issues with it.

Inexpensive and low maintenance! This also looks like a good idea as a back up saw in case you get your main saw pinched. Wouldn't get used much, so same maintenance benefit. And you could use it for quick limin!

    Raybonz,
I have had my Echo weed eater for about 15 years and that thing has taken the abuse. I also have a small blower which is about the same age.
Come to think of it the Echo stuff I own has been good to me.

The GT-1100 weed whacker I own is made in USA too.. I like it because it's lightweight, uses little fuel and I refill the spool line myself which is inexpensive.. I like the Husky 0.80" titanium line.. Tough stuff and not too pricey..

Canned pre-mix fuel for sure. The saw will run better and storage won't be much of an issue unless we're talking years in between uses.

For occasional limbs and small trees id go ms170 or 180. They're good, lightweight, handy little saws. Very easy to use too

I say 170 or 180 as well. If we are going the budget friendly route..

If a $400 saw is feasible? Then the 545 or 2252 J-red is about as good as they come.

Unfortunately not feasible in some places. Around here it is a 2 hour drive to get non-E fuel. However, I put fuel stabilizer in the can every time I get gas no matter what and have never had a carb problem. Some tools go a year between runs and I always leave fuel in them.
As mastermech said, truefuel is an option for someone with very low use but I can't bring myself to pay $20 a gallon.

I'm surprised someone hasn't started selling it for $5 or $6 a gallon or so in larger quantities.

If this person will be using it lightly than pre-mix fuel is an option.

(edit:) I'll be darned there really is nowhere to buy good stuff near the Hudson Valley. Untitled.jpg

I also was figuring that 3 cans of premix will last for years maybe before it is all used.

Yup, I'm right smack in the middle of that. I bet it has to do with us being in the 'new york metro' area. Probably aren't allowed to sell it :(

I've wondered that myself. I suspect it's because the cost of shipping/logistics with bottled/canned liquid is substantially higher (per gallon) than by way of tanker truck. Plus these pre-mix fuels have to be one of the higher-margin items in the store.

You are probably correct. My neighbor said he can buy it for $12 a gallon if he buys 5 gallons at a time but that is still double over what I am willing to pay.
