Well if I ever get one I will ask you how to do this.. Don't like the idea of a really loud saw so as long as the saw runs well I will leave that as is..

It's actually pretty quiet unless you muff mod it.

Bone stock they run fine. Not quite German or Swede fast. More of a steady, reliable Japanese feel. Think of it as the Toyota Corolla of the 60cc saw world. Word is that they port very well.

Don't know where it came from originally, but I bought a reconditioned 590 as part of a package deal. Haven't found any for sale as recon yet though. Anybody seen recons for sale?

I sometimes see them at Home Depot but that's rare... The 590 is a bit slower on response than my 034 super was however it does not bog down at all and just eats wood for dinner. It's very well made. I like your description.

raybonz to give you an idea of echo quality in the six years I have had the cs310 all I have had to do is replace the fuel filter once and that was my fault I got a good amount of dirt on it. The auto oiler stopped or so I thought but again my fault I cleaned it out and it is fine. It also just works same with my leaf blower and weed whacker both echo. I also just got an old JD yellow weed whacker and it's made by echo long ago it too runs great.

I need to pick one of these up!

I have an Echo cs4400 that I bough new in 2001. I've never done anything to it and it's been used a good bit. Starts on 4 or 5 pulls when cold and 1 when hot.

I also have an Echo srm2400 weedeater I bought in 96 or 97. I have beat the crap out of this thing and it's still going. Original plug and filter maybe I should change them lol. Starts on same number of pulls as it did when new.

Their stuff might not be super fast but they are damm reliable.

My wee Echo top handle is 33 yrs old now.Dont get used as much anymore but when I was younger it was used all the time when climbing/pruning.

Tough as can be & always reliable.Christmas gift from parental units a long time ago.Its the early version of that model - no chain brake or even a hand guard, just 9000 RPM & barely 8 pounds. The one thing I don't like about it is that the air filter with perforated cover is at the front, directly behind the chain.Fills up quickly with chips.Later versions had this flaw corrected.

Will eat through the toughest White Oak or Hickory with sharp chisel chain. Some 20 yrs ago it was dropped 25 feet from a tree on the grass.Broke the spark plug (but the rubber boot was fine) & bashed up the sheetmetal muffler/clutch cover but that straightened up quickly & easily with a small hammer & scrap piece of 2 x 4.

Sometimes it takes 6-7 pulls to start after setting for a couple months (especially in cold temps) but once its warmed up it restarts 1 pull & is unstoppable. If it ever dies I'm leaning towards one of their current models such as the CS 355T.

I also have a John Deere 260G weedtrimmer made by Echo but yellow bought new in 1992,can be stubborn to start after sitting all winter, but its very durable & is 1 pull after warming up.

Only suckers and pros pay retail. $300 sounds like a good place to start from. Way more grunt than the price tag implies. Can't wait to run a ported one.

    Just found this thread Ray.:coffee:

Great review Pete.. I've had mine now for a few weeks and probably around 2 cord has been through it,cant find much of a problem with the way its running and haven't "tweaked" it yet Ray. But after reading this i'll be getting the tools out i imagine.

Outta the box Pete did yours bog down at first throttle after it ran for awhile? Mine did and with a small adjust with the carb it screams instantly now.;)

Have had a couple buddies stop in and gave it a go and thought its a strong runner for sure.. But we already know that eh Pete.:D

Bought this one also but its gonna have to wait till the 25th for Christmas/Mrs loon reasons.:thumbs:

I don't think you'd be a sucker buying the pro saws.. Pros like to work with the best just like I only use the best electrical tools..I insist on Fluke high end meters, the best amprobes, and the best hand tools too.. For my purposes I would be fine with a "lesser" chainsaw however I consider Echo a good value name as I know how well they are made and designed to last at a good price point.. I would imagine that Stihl would be a notch above just as Husky has some great saws plus there are many other good choices..

Around here all the tree services I know of run echo or Efco saws because they are pro and last forever. They are also at a good price point for them.

I don't think he ment that it to be read that way... At least the way I read it. He was talking about the price. "Only suckers and the Pros pay retail". Cause his other words were positive towards Echo. :handshake:

I wasn't the least bit upset just didn't want our members that insist on pro type saws upset.. I understand why they buy them and personally I would buy the Echo CS590 without hesitation. Do I consider it the best? Nope but it is best for me.. All is well :)

Dex the 590 for $300 has been there for months now. If same one. Also a 600.
Really surprised it hadnt sold already. If it was a plastic stihl 290 it would have been gone forst week. Folks are just clueless IMO.

If I was looking at firewood cutting saws for folks I would lead the horse to echo 590 etc over the plastic homeowner models of name brands.

With my older pro grade poulans parts starting to go NLA on parts 46cc-83cc. I have been holding back on selling some of my echos 34cc-81cc.

Most of the major saw brands have varying levels of build quality throughout the line-up. Stihl, Husky, Dolmar, even Echo all do this. Quality is not necessarily attached to a brand name. Look at saws like the Stihl MS251 vs the MS241. Similar size saws, and a world of difference in the quality of the tool.

Also, just because a saw is built on a vertically split case (alum or mag) with a removable cylinder does not make it a "pro" saw nor does being a "clamshell" design make it a POS.

I know I was impressed with the 311 I worked on compared to the 310 saws I have worked on. I just aint a fan of the 290 310 saws to be down right honest.

My comment may have been misunderstood (or even misstated). But i think it sounds like a buy it now price. The 590 may not be marketed as a pro saw, as it lacks rim drive and a decent bar/chain. But thats hardly a problem.

If I was buying a new one, I'd hang the Echo branded bar and chain on a nail and fit it with a proper 72dl set up. When and if I decided to sell or trade it, it would have a nice tidy set up to barter/sell.

IMHO a bar, chain and muff mod will have this saw running way above its pay grade. Ported... Maybe embarrassing more than a few "Pro" saws.

Edit: I'd also say this was BRILLIANT move and timing by Echo. A strong, SIMPLE, 2-stroke 60cc saw when the big boys have gone all techy on us.
