I agree. My stove is in an unfinished basement too and a steady stove temp auto works best when the cold hits like earlier this week. It is also the method that uses the least amount of fuel. Shoulder time, room temp manual works well.

Last night I had it on stove temp and fell asleep on the couch. Wasn't too cold outside (maybe 35) and I woke up at 11:30 wayyy to warm. I just shut it down and went to bed. Should have left it on room temp, but I was cold when I got home from work and room temp wasnt getting me there fast enough cause the stove was off all day. It takes time (and fuel) to overcome the basement.

I am considering drilling a hole in the living room floor and extending the Harman temp probe up into the living room so I dont need a stat for the shoulder. Luckily the living room is right above the stove.

How many bags this season......About 20 so far. A bag a day the past 5 days due to the temp drop but that is leveling off again with warmer temps :), Been burning since mid October using about 15 bags in a month isnt bad for a Cellah Dwellah

    Hey Tink

Is this with only 1 or both stoves running? 5 Bags is darn good this season if you are not using anything else.

I've gone through 18 bags of pellets and about 1/3 cord of wood. It is too hot in my house and the wife loves it that way....:fire:

Just one stove. My XXV is my primary stove running from the basement.

2nd stove is ready to fire up but will probably sit idle until the temps get near zero.
