My truck has had a coolant leak so it hasn't been driven for a while. (I miss her, never should have got a car ) So I thought it was time to try find the leak and get it running again, tired of borrowing my son's truck. So pulled it in the garage and the neighbor and I started digging in. Looks like I need a new intake manifold because a little piece of plastic broke. While I'm at it I might as well put in some new plugs and maybe a couple new coil packs. A couple closest to the leak had fouled up... Time permitting it may be up and running by next weekend !!! Pretty much have it all ready to go, just need to find some parts and see if I can do it cheap from the salvage yard or if I have to go to the auto parts store. I guess this will be my Christmas present
Trying to keep the cost down a bit. Already told my wife it would cost about 50 bucks. Just like every other project I tackle
Hopefully all goes well for you when you reinstall everything. Let's hope there's no spare parts in the box when your done.
My neighbor is a bit more mechanically inclined than myself, but through the years I have improved greatly. As we were peeling off the hoses, vacuum tubes, electrical connections and other assorted parts and bolts I asked him if we would be able to put it all back together. He responded with a very positive and exuberant "probably"
4.6 Ford? If so go new, the new one has aluminum on the front water passage where the t-stat housing it's which is where it cracks most of the time. Those composite intakes are a ticking time bomb after 100k.
yes.. don't buy a used one and go through the hassle of changing it and having it leak again. the new ones have the aluminum to keep them from melting and warping from heat.
It's a 5.4, 245k on it so I can't complain too much. Just got home from the parts store with a new one. Heading out to the garage shortly. Hopefully we will make some good progress tonight !!!
Well between schedules, the Holiday's and a bout with the flu, finally had a road test tonight, 75 miles later the old girl is runnin' smoothly
Not bad for 245k. Those are pretty well built trucks. It's actually worth it to do work like this as piece of mind If you plan on keeping it a while. With the cost of new trucks, it's a good idea to keep the one you have running.
I really don't "need" a truck all the time, but it sure is nice to have it when I do !!! Plus it just feels good to drive it once in while
My truck got wrecked 2 months ago and have been having to drive my station wagon. (little Mercury Tracer). I had no idea how much I used the "truck" feature until I HAD to drive this car for the last 2 months. The wagon is ok for more stuff than just a car but when it comes to oversize stuff and capacity the truck is where its at. I bet I got some laughs. Last week I had a chitload of lumber strapped to the top rack. Glad I didn't have to go far.
Since its running, I thought I should give it a little test. But then, of course it goes back to the original title... Nothing's ever simple... Looks like I have another project. A little recoil work to do I think it just may be time for some of this for a while
