Running that saw is enough fun on its own to justify some hard work. It would be neat to take it all through break in in the same piece of wood. 3 of it's 5 tanks are already from this tree.

I could, but that won't pull or oil any bigger bar than the 441.

Me too. 16" and 8 pin is the go to on most work. 25" and 7 pin on the bigger jobs.

I would think it would put out more oil. Never used either though...

It might have at one time, but I don't think it's as fresh as it once was.

It will put out a lot more oil than a standard 441. Power wise it doesn't have anything over the 441. I like the 038 tho. Just good old fashioned magnesium grunt.

    My 038 Mag has the oiler @ 3/4 with a 32" B&C

My 044 has the oiler maxxed with a 32" B&C

The 038 Mag absolutely puts out more oil than my 044................. I hope the 441 oils better than my 044, or the controll bolt will need some grinding to keep a 32" happy

The 441 will put out about the same amount of oil unless it's the HO oiler. They don't do very good over 28" bars at keeping them lubed up good.

Well, I picked up a 36" ES bar and a skip chain and the internals needed for a high output oiler. The oiler guts were $30, and they had them in stock.

Going to carve on this baby next weekend. IMAG0686.jpg

Probably going to get the Dremel out on the muffler this week just to give it a little extra oomph for the big bar.

I'm really liking this new saw shop I found. They are a saw dealer first and foremost, and sell stoves and climbing gear. Much better experience than the usual lawn tractor dealer that had some saws in the corner like I'm used to.

I'll have to say the 441, stock other than the ho oiler, pulled the 36" bar nicely with a skip chain.

I cut rounds with the 441, using a full tank for each round, then noodled with a borrowed 660 with a 25" bar. Burned two gallons between the two yesterday. My arms are sore for sure.

Didn't get a pic when we were done, but got three rounds off the trunk cut, noodled, spilt, and hauled home, and all the branches cut, dragged to the field, bucked, split, loaded and hauled.

Those rounds were noodled into 12 chunks and they still had to be rolled to the splitter.

I'll be the first to say that this is the most I've worked for firewood. There are definitely easier ways, but it has been fun to be part of, and a challenge.

big trees are a ton of work. They are also a ton of fun if and only if you have a saw with adequate power. an 036 with a 28" bar in oak isn't any fun... lol
