I am just wondering if any of you wonderful folks out there have TMJ or know someone that has. The dentist gave me a night guard, but it is not helping. My jaw is sliding all over the place and I am living on milkshakes, soup, and anything else soft. I do not want to see a surgeon yet! I am dissabled with a rare joint disorder called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, and so unfortunately this is the result. Docs say at 31 I have the joints of a 80 year old man. On top of that I have a Chiari Malformation which is a herniation of the brain stem and 3 herniated disks in my neck. I already need a boat load of surgery and dont want to add this to the list. With having such a huge community, if you know anyone with TMJ, or Ehlers Danlos, or a Chiari Malformation shoot me a PM, I would love to chat with you. I was not going to bring this up because I do not bring up my illness as there is a lot more folks out there that are a lot worse then I am like those poor children with cancer. I still feel blessed with what I can do, but it is nice to chat with folks that are in the same boat.!
Not sure if you looked for other forums that deal with TMJ but I found this. http://m.ehealthforum.com/health/tmj.html Good luck.
With your optomistic attitude who would know? God Bless. And take it easy on the wood pellets milkshakes they have a lot of fiber.
Soft foods because of pain or aligning the teeth to chew? I am not in your situation but if it were me I might lean towards a surgery if could help me eat better or relieve some pain in my jaw.
My wife has/had TMJ. It took her a long time to find a dentist that could even diagnose/treat it properly. Mouth piece at night. Physical Therapy. Exercises for the jaw. 4 years later it doesn't bother her any more. As it was explained to us your jaw adapts, it doesn't really heal in the way a broken bone or cut does.
My wife has TMJ along with a very rare ailment called eagles syndrome. PM me any questions and ill pass this to her. Prayers sent.......
Wow thanks everyone this is a blessing and I will send out some PM to get some more information. That is why I love it here, just like a family and you don't need to be afraid to ask for help!
You are right brokenwing. And many of us can relate as we have problems too; just different ones. This is a good forum with good people. We'll be praying for you.
I want to thank you all for your well wishes. I have a appointment on Thursday, so we will see what the doc says!
Well I went to see the Doc, and he said my jaw was definitely not in good shape. He has me on a low sugar diet, wearing a night guard around the clock for a few weeks, and inflammation medicine. So we shall see. I know this soup and oatmeal diet is getting old fast, I want a big fat juicy steak, and some potatoes lol! He is good dentist though, he said he would call Wednesday and check how I am before he goes on his Christmas break. I will give him credit, one of the most down to earth doctors you will ever meet. He has sat there before just chatting for almost an hour and talking about everything I have been going through.
Look on the bright side: you can have as many milkshakes as you want Hope all goes well and the doc can get you fixed up
Dentist, he game me a sheet on how sugar can cause stress and put a lot of pressure on the body I never thought of it, but I can see where he is coming from!
