    Uglies is anything that does not look like a nicely cut split of wood. They still throw BTUs though. So I save them for heat as well.

    No wedge is still there the elm is just that stringy if it isnt froze. You can still it just doesn't look as good

    Splitting after dark is good for me too. When the short days came in I hung some new flood lights and lit up my processing area. I mostly split and try not to do any cutting after dark. From six to nine after work, I can be found splitting a half cord or a cord or loading the truck. It will be nice when it doesn't get dark so early. After a couple of beers those uglies always seem to look better but the next morning they are back to being uglies again and too big to fit in the stove, "Geez what was I thinking when I took that one over to split?" LOL :)

    I had to do that for a while myself, was working 60+ hours a week kind of a nice way to get away.

    Amazing how a few drinks makes even the most unattractive seem good. Been there more than A few times in my early twenties.
