I don't know how this will go over with the others but here is my take on those 2 ads.

    Rancher:
You can buy a brand new rancher for almost the same money. I don't know if the old ones are that much better or if you are better off to get the new ones.

    562:
I would be curious why it is only $300. And it looks like it was run hard with all the dirt/ oil all over the thing for a saw that is only a few years old. Also, if there is something wrong with it, you aren't going to be able to work on the electronics/ diagnostics without the computer program. (unless I am missing something and the owner can now)

I have a 562 that I bought a few years back and it was at the dealers more than I had it ( about 2 1/2 years old and spent almost as year in the shop) for ghosts in the electronics and it still gives me fits to start one day and fire up the next without rhyme or reason. Luckily the dealer was working on it under warranty (out of warranty after 1 year on the pro saws vs 2 yrs on the homeowners) and it wasn't costing me anything other than time without the saw (which is how I ended up with a 372, waiting for my 562 to come back I needed a saw)

That being said, I love my 562 a lot more than my 372 and it is definitely more comfortable to run all day and I think it keeps up or surpasses my 372 with a 20" bar and can run a 28" pretty well as well.

Doesn't that seem like a lot for the Rancher? What can a new 545 be had for? I'll bet the folks here can come up with a heckuva a list of new saws under $400 that would deserve consideration.

The seller answered my email, he's helping a family member sell, doesn't have any pics etc.

The 55 Rancher sold for less than $400 new IIRC? Perhaps tlandrum has a better memory than I do, .

The 562 for $300 might be worth investigating but that saw does indeed look to have had a hard life. I'd be curious as to why the seller thinks it needs a new air filter, damaged/missing or just clogged? Who knows. I haven't fogured out if "tex"ing someone is a good thing or not?
