I'd think you'd need more than a 105cc saw to pull that "wide kerf" chain!!

Yes, and I'll have a buddy carry the bar and wide kerf chain separate.

    Someone buy a $600 new MS 261

Someone else buy one of these knock off 070/090.

    Then race ;)

I would like to run one. No doubt. But they seem to be targeted for an enthusiast who likes to play in old saw technology. A real 090 is on Columbus CL as well. Its well used and they want $1,200. So to get a new saw, that looks like the real thing, for $600? To some, that is a good deal... Ill still take that MS 261C.

And after the races are over I would love to see which saw still runs after a couple of hundred tanks. Or even 2o tanks.

I'm with ya Dex! I've run the real deals and have always wanted to run one of the knock-offs, but just haven't ever had the chance. I would love to give one a thorough look-over, hear how it sounds at idle, and of course see what happens when the trigger disappears and and chips start to fly! :saw: I had an offer from a member who has one to get together so I could run a wannabe and he could run the real thing, but the drive is a little long, and I'm laid up for awhile anyways. :(

For the right price (i.e. very low) I would even consider buying a used one, but I've only seen new ones for sale and have never actively sought out one to purchase.

If you think they'll run 40% better we can start a whole new thread!!

You my never find a used one. After a month or two when the saw is used up already they probably go straight to the scrape yard.

I have a Richmond here in Lancaster Ohio, come on over and try it out. Would like some feedback, never ran a real Stihl. Best running saw I own, richmond, chinese craftsman, husky. Not sure if it is really a considered a knock off.

I appreciate the offer, but that's about 3.5 hrs one way. I'd like to run one, but not bad enough for that long of a road trip. Maybe I'll be able to make it to the next Ohio GTG and we can all do some in-person comparisons then!

I have nothing against them at all, and no offense to you, but it is absolutely a knock off. The looks, design, construction, and technology is all Stihl (patents and trademarks too, but the Chinese don't care about that either). Doesn't matter what brand gets put on it or where it's made . . . if it wasn't manufactured (or contracted) by and sold through Stihl as a Stihl product it's a knock off.:)

It ain't a Stihl knock-off but I have a Chinese copy of a RedMax/Zenoah design that's got about 15-20 tanks through it. Couple Earthquakes here too if you really want to scratch that Chinese Saw itch... :saw::saw::saw:
