curious as to what that sign on the hearth say's?

I have bad eyes and could still see that.......

 

It is a waste of perfectly good wood but damm it's pretty... reminds me of camping, indoors, in a hotel, with wood I didn't have to obtain on my own....

I left a note for him in the empty woodstack with moisture measurements complaining about the oak at 23%....

thinking of leaving a bill for creosote removal services at the front desk....

Looks like it was too hat for the guests...all the chairs are empty...PERFECT!!

 

I was wondering the same thing when I say the pic! Probably something like...

"This wood burning fireplace is placed and lit for the enjoyment of our guests by hotel staff only! Fireplaces and wood burning can be dangerous! Please do not throw wood or anything else into the fire! Failure to comply will result in expulsion as our guest!!"

Was out in Yellowstone in Sept. Here is a pic of the fireplace at the lodge at Old Faithful. There was no fire and some sort of sign saying don't mess with the fireplace and a lame smoke cut out on the screen. The lodge is an amazing place, built from local pine logs, my picture doesn't do it justice, I'm sure you can find some others.

A couple of the bars I frequent have outdoor fire pits for cooler weather. I love sitting back and watching the hipster employees trying to start a fire, and then the hipster patrons there with girls jumping in to help, trying to impress the ladies. But in the end they're left with just a pile of smoldering paper and a huge stack of wood on top that never lights (or sometimes a huge pile of wood on the bottom, and they throw in single sheets of paper on top thinking that's going to light the whole thing lol). I always wait until they've made a fool out of themselves before jumping in, pulling out the mess of logs they've thrown in then and starting over from scratch. Every now and then I'll get a free drink out of my efforts!

Lol, unfortunately if I want to go to a bar that has real beer on tap, I've got to deal with them. As they've taken over Cincinnati, the micro breweries have sprouted up everywhere too, so I guess I'll deal with their weirdness!

 

I've done my fair share of drinking in Cincy over the years!! It's a fun town!!

 

If you haven't been here in the past 3-4 years, it's even better. The "Over the Rhine" district, which used to be slums and an area to stay out of past dark, is getting pretty nice. There's ton's of smaller bars and good food within a very small area of town.

 

It said something about fireplace rules and such, I didn't really pay any attention....

 

That should be considered a crime of the highest level of treason to put up that stupid picture of smoke. Ungrateful sons of bitches.
