A friend of mine works for a heavy lift company in Seattle and she sent me this picture of one of her birds in action. It's just such a beautiful shot that I had to share it with my friends, And it's wood related so it counts!
I need one of those to get the stuff out along the 5 acres south of those 2 very steep ravines up on top of those steep slopes....
They did some heli-logging around 15 years ago nearby on state forest land, a lot of it was virgin timber in a very remote mountainous location. Was very cool (and somewhat sad) to see it happen but the trees were damaged from storms that had hit the area. Amazingly low impact, it's weird to ride a mountain bike up an overgrown 100 year old Indian path and see fresh stumps and a couple tops laying and no damage whatsoever to the surroundings..
Nice photo! Back in 1979, my Dad took me on a business trip out to Oregon. We visited some mills that his company bought lumber from. I can remember going to the log landings to see the operation and seeing the giant helicopters coming into the landing zone with 3-4 logs. They would drop them off and head back out. They had 3 helicopters in the fleet. 1 would be picking up a load, the 2nd flying back to get a load and the 3rd would be dropping off his load.
