Just had a guy deliver and stack locust that came down during hurricane Sandy. Stacked it measures 10 feet long, 2 feet wide (shorter 14 and 16 inch splits but thick) and its 3 feet tall. Its stacked pretty tight. I put the moisture meter to it and its averaging at 14%. He did tell me that some pieces were from last winter so he put those in a different pile, those are at around 25%. He charged me 90$ for it. I think its a good deal. The cord around here delivered not stacked is going for $230-260 and its not this dry nor is it Locust. He promised to drop a bunch of 6 to 8 inch long rounds that he has laying around that he thinks are too small to sell. Those are a freebie. Young guy trying to earn extra cash for his kid's travel sports. That pretty honorable I think. Whats yall's thought. Kat.
Pretty good I'd say... The most important part is as long as your happy thats truly all that matters...
I think that sounds like a great deal. Just a little under 1/2 cord. 90 bucks for 1/2 cord of dry locust, stacked? You won't even find prices that good here down south
I'd see if he had 2 or 12 more loads like that he could deliver......little early Christmas present to yourself.
Yep, if you're low for this winter at all or want to stock up, this guy seems like a seller to hold on to
Locust can season great in log form in my experience. I did a few cords this year from wind fall trees with the bark falling off - I was getting around 17-20% on most of it. I'll bet you can burn that this year if you want!
Yea seems like a good dude. The fact that he told me that some pieces were dryet than others and stacked them separately says a lot. Most vendots around here are not too forthcoming about their wood. He's dropping another 2 similar loads tomorrow and givin g me some odds and end pieces. He doesn't like to sell uglies.
Yes! A Merry Christmas to you. It is great hearing about a young man trying to make a dollar but still be honorable in doing it.
Hang on to this guy, maybe invite him for a beer or soft drink or pizza . An honest firewood salesman is a rare thing, like a fine brandy, the experience should be savored and made to last as long as possible!
Here is the pile minus about 50 splits that were stacked on a separate pile since they had a higher moisture content. Burnt some of the dryer splits last night and it was excellent.
