Finally got the 272 patched up and back together. This hands down was the worst/dumbest saw purchase I have ever made . Now I need to find a shorter bar and chain for this thing and cut a couple of cords to take my frustration out on it.I think this one will become a beater saw and I am going to run my money back out of it.
Why not just try to sell it for what you can get, end the frustration. Life is too short to have something sitting around that is a disappointment. Out of sight, out of mind. Best win I can think of.
Well I would do that if I trusted it enough but I would rather not sell a saw that I'm not 100% certain about. I have about 325 in it(which could be worse) however after I bought it I r tore it down and found that the piston/ring had been replaced and I have no idea what is in it. I cut about 8 truckloads of wood with it when I first got it then I cracked the tank. I then bought a new tank that was a china knock off and it didn't come with a tank vent and I couldn't find a single stock one to fit which led to a year of messing around with it. I finally just epoxied the vent in 2 days ago. Also I put all new AV mounts on it.
That bar came with the saw and while it is nice in the bug stuff it needs to go lol. Way to nose heavy for me I'm thinking 20" or 24".
So one other issue I am remembering is the muffler bolts always vibrate loose. Anyone familiar with this issue and will loctite fix it?
thats a nice looking saw! Why do you say its the worst/dumbest saw you've bought? they do make good runners, but a lot of people over shadow them with the 372... I loved mine and kinda wish I wouldn't have sold it. It was kinda like a stihl with the AV, but made gooder power than an 044. mine was all stock. Anyways, I have a couple bars kicking around. Think I have an 18" 058 and a 20" 050 I could send ya. I'll dig to see what else I have too. I think I have a couple 15" NOS oregons that use that three rivet nose. I love those old bars!.
That would be sweet. Let me know what you want for them. I guess it probably isn't the worst saw purchase I could have made but it was a dumb impulse bid on ebay and I didn't get quite what I thought as the buyer made it sound like it was all OEM. On a positive note it now runs great and I plan on keeping it and working it hard to make it earn it's keep since I don't feel like I need to keep it minty like my 460 .
