Does anyone know if its worthwhile to do a muffler mod on my 024AV? Since its' an older saw, I'm not sure its muffler is as restrictive as the newer models. Thanks, Dave
Yes they are restrictive. Drill a 3/8" hole in the baffle plate inside the front cover. Make sure you retune.
Thanks SquareFile. One other question; I've tuned the saws stock, but never after a mod. How involved is that for the 024? I've seen YouTube videos on tuning Stihls after a muffler mod, but nothing specific to the 024. Dave
Could you just tear out the baffle plate on the the inside of the muffler? I did that on an old 026 Stihl and man what a difference after I tuned it. It only had 3 little 3\16 holes for the exhaust to get out now it has a nice slot to get out quicker. It is louder but it made a world of difference.
Another question. I was getting ready to do the mod today, but held off due to not having a tach to tune the carb after the mod. Can you tune the carb just by ear after doing the muffler mod?
Just a quick update; I did the muffler mod (3/8" hole) and retuned. It made a difference. Glad I did it. I also tried some racing fuel for mix. That made a difference too! Still loving my old, faithful 024AV. Dave,
