Tree service showed up to cut down the red oak and spruce tree by the street. Oak had a crack in the butt. This spruce came in a box a two or three year bare root seedling when I was 4 or 5 with a couple hundred others. Helped Dad transplant it here out of his garden to make room for some grape vines when I was 19 or 20 in '72,'73. It didn't have to come down but it wasn't a pretty specimen tree any more losing its bottom branches and 10 feet of top blown off in a storm. I never liked the electric lines going thru it with heavy snow. Plus the guys were here .........
Having a bucket truck is really a big help and makes the job go quicker. Nice that you will get some super firewood from this job. Hope it wasn't too costly.
Betting the oak splits a lot easier than the pine Good they're down, you took one big potential problem off you list
Um, where are all the branches from the Spruce? That's the worst part. I'm guessing they all got chipped. How much wood is in that nice big Oak?
$900.00 Ouch With the butt rot/crack that likely would have come down in the next hurricane. ( course, we haven't had one for a while, but we have nasty northeasters, too) Hurricanes tend to blow trees down towards the Northwest here , which the house is in the path of. Hate to lose the shade on the house in the Summer, but ..... chipped a cord, maybe more won't get to it for at least a week or more I started another drywall project. I've gotten a cord out of two others almost that size that have fallen in a storm ( but they were both hollow, had carpenter ants and I cut up more of the branches . A lot of of these branches got chipped.
Well, I still have Spruce rounds in the driveway from it's Sept. 26th takedown. Don't feel too bad if it takes some time to get to it. Life happens.
Great wood you got. My cousins Oak trees that I got. They where getting charged $250 per hour. But you got it down with out it doing any damage to the house or anyone. Peace of mind... Priceless...
900 bucks doesn't sound too bad for 2 trees. That spruce looks like it'll be a pain to split with all those knots Looks like a lot of nice oak though, that'll split nice and smooth They gonna come back and hit that stump?
You can't see it but there is a rock sticking up on the back side that's about as low as they could go. I'd like to bolt a toilet to it and plant dandelions in it, but I had that thought out loud and got the "You're gonna love living here alone" look so I guess that's not happening. 1/2 whiskey barrel or something. I'll be drilling a few holes in it for salt to try to stop it from growing back.
Bill, sure is a price to pay for peace of mind, no? Don't ponder on the $900 for cutting them down; rather, just think that you got way overcharged for some firewood that was partly processed!
