I'm trying to figure out approximately what I'm getting in each load at about this level of logs. Truck has an 8 foot bed and this is maple.

Can you guys help me out? I'm thinking maybe 1/2 a cord.

Tossed in like that I suspect you're right around 1/2 cord. I figured when I stacked with no sideboards I was getting a solid 2/3, sneaking up on 3/4 depending on how it "mounded". This http://www.soilbuildingsystems.com/tools/pickuptruckcapacities gives good examples of the cubic yards available, with 4.74 yards per cord. Of course we have to take into account the obvious air space which is a big variable.

And this was mostly maple. This truck would have been bottomed out with oak.

Tossed like that, probably a bit over 1/2. A full sized 8 foot bed is just about exactly 1/2 cord stacked tight and to the bed rails with split wood

A smidge over 1/2 cord, most look like rounds to be split. Takes more volume as splits.

Splits take up more space than rounds. You might be pushing 2/3 cord.

There is still a lot on the ground where I'm harvesting. The stuff I'm running into now is big, so I'm cleaning up the smaller stuff to save my back. I'll probably split in place what is left.

A cord is 4 ft x 4 ft x 8 ft stacked, split wood. You have about 4 x 4 x 8 ft but it isn't stacked and split. I'd guess it will compress by about 1/2, so you have 1/2 cord of wood.

I'll say 9/16 or 5/8 of a cord after its split and stacked.

I think you have more than 1/2 cord, that's really heaped, I think closer to 2/3-3/4, let us know when you're done to see who's the best estimator.

1/3 cord. A truck bed holds 1/4 cord split. You have a more than that.

Did you travel far with the wood in the bed like that?
