Spent a few hours this afternoon setting up a corner of the basement to use this winter. Still want to hang a shop light or two and get rid of the box spring but it will work for now. Now the other question I had for those familiar with an 031 is is it possible to replace the av mounts that attach the handle to the saw? Both of the mounts seem to be broke and before I tear into it I figured one of you all would know. The other issue with it is the starter rope doesn't want to catch all the time and it seems to have a slight bog but only at full throttle and just for a second. Any ideas.
Your AV mount can be replaced and is still available. Pull the starter mechanism and look at the prawls to make sure the springs are not broke and look at the flywheel, they break where the prawls make contact. Also your rope needs wound a turn or 2. By the looks of the carbon foul on the front of the saw it looks like its very rich. Could be tune, compression, or ignition failing which happens often with the 031. Good ignitions are hard to come by for that saw. The condenser is usually the problem. Be cautious because you could spend a lot of money to fix it. It does look like its in nice condition though. Nice little set up!! Looks like a great place to spend some time! As for the mounts, I second what SquareFile said. Did you just buy that Husky box? I almost pulled the trigger on that same box Black Friday? But my little shop in the basement is about full up.
yeah I confess I went black Friday shopping and bought the box at home Depot. I figured the wife drug me out so I might as well get something out of the deal lol. It seem sturdy and we'll put together. Oh did I mention the small beer fridge is right by the bench plus the basement is much warmer than the garage in January
By the way the 031 isn't mine it's a close friend of mines saw and he just wanted it as a backup to the MS 290 I sold him. I told him up front it probably wasn't worth fixing but would take a lookk.
I second the watch the $$ for repairs. I spent way too much getting mine up and running and I had a good ignition to start with. If you are fixing it for your own personal use/satisfaction then have at it. Just be aware that these are hard to sell for more than $100 or so these days.
I still think I will be getting that box. It's a nice box for the price.. I set my shop up in the basement, and I use it 90% of the time (summer or winter). It's always warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Congrats again!!
