I've been burning mostly red maple this shoulder season that I processed last fall. Really good stuff for this time of year, and it smells so sweet when burning! Oak needs to come out soon...

Funny enough, the sugar maple I processed at the same time was easier to split, but that might just be due to shape/condition of the tree, etc.

    Enjoy!

Basically running my Focus back and forth from the backyard to the porch. Trying to get this split and stacked in a dry place as quick as possible. There is a red oak round in there, it's a part of the tree that I dropped the red maple on. Done for today doing the hoarding thing though, got to get to bed soon for work.:D  :coffee:

Never pictured the focus as a wood hauler. But a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do I guess. Those are some nice rounds.

    Good job !
I'd recommend a tarp then put the wood in.
    Save the mess ;)

Should be good to burn in a year, maple dries fast.

It's going to be my 'in a pinch' wood just in case my downed seasoned stuff doesn't last through the winter.

Actually a hatchback has some pretty awesome capabilities as far as cargo space goes. I've hauled plywood for my father in that car before.:D

Don't have a wheelbarrow and I wasn't carrying those rounds a splits 100+ feet. The larger rounds I left behind for today, gotta save on the back. And I don't know about going as crazy as Shawn did, don't think the shocks could take it.

I actually planned on picking up to use specifically for firewood. And being addicted isn't a bad thing.:D

Actually the red maple split like a dream compared to the American Elm I split in the summer, then again some might say iron is easier to split than that elm. Only parts that gave me troubles were the thicker knots.:axe:

    Git 'er dun Upstate.
I've been using quite a bit of Red the last couple years. This winter is about a full cord, and I have almost double that for next year.
    Gooder stuff.

Elm is the WORST I have ever split! Sledge and wedge splitting from top to bottom -I'll never knowingly get unsplit Elm again -even for free!
