Mr. A, I've read similar articles......and they all fascinate me. I can tell you that here, where I live in the central Allegheny Mountains, the American Chestnut was a dominant species of tree. To this day, there are still rotted out snags and stumps on the mountains around us. A really good friend of mine who's a bit older than me can remember his Great Grandpap telling him stories of how massive some of those chestnut trees were......almost all killed off by the mid 1950's from blight. I was born around 4 centuries too late........I'd consider seeing the way it looked here hundreds of years ago to be close to what I think Heaven looks like......sure, it was a tough world to live in (you depended on yourself for survival), but you'd be the master of your own fate as well.....

Great article...seemed pretty objective as opposed to extreme environmentalism to me though. Maybe my big block driving, tree cutting, diesel gardening self is going mad liberal as the years tick by.
