How many members own, or have owned, Caulk boots (cork boots)?

Just curious how many people in the forum have ever worn cork boots out working in the bush before. We don't need them around here where I live now because it's usually very dry, but when I lived out on Vancouver Island, and worked in the bush where there is lots of rain forest and everything is so slippery, they were pretty much essential.

I know this may not be the right forum for this poll, but there isn't a specific PPE forum.

 

Not yet but I did do this a couple years back to an old pair of steel toed boots for walking on ice,packed snow & mud at construction sites/working in the woods.They work very well,can practically run on ice coated sidewalks/parking lots.

Will get a real pair eventually.

 

I have a pair of those boots with no spikes, they'd sure eat my rubber tractor pedals up in a hurry Be nice to have them when it's icy outside...

 

Never heard of them, but sound useful.

 

I did that to a battery operated Jeep once. My son was peeved he couldn't get a grip on the driveway. Loaded the rear wheels with 5/16 hex head self drilling screws and that Jeep pulled wheelies!

 

Logger boots do it for me. But I do have a pair of plain old rubber boots. They do the trick for wet cold days (not cutting wood).

Now I just buy the replacement spikes and screw them into the boot. Works much better on boots with treads that are harder rubber, usually a work boot as opposed to a hiking boot. The tread on hiking boots is usually pretty soft for max traction and the spikes rip out pretty easily.

 

You should see what they do indoors to certain types of flooring. Not something you want to be wearing if you have to quickly run back into the house or into the store.

I have a set of spikes that slip on over my boots for when it gets icy.

I have a pair of the non-cleated overboots from NEOS and they are waterproof and insulated and work well.

Combine these cleated overboots with a steel toe boot for cutting?

They also make a steel toe industrial over boot but I don't think they have a cleated version of the steel toe boot.

 

That's probably true, but even a bot can pick a random number between 1 and 4.
Once those bots learn how to beat CAPTCHAs and register as forum members, human intervention in forums will no longer be necessary.

 

25 year old pair of Viberg! Never had to wear them to work.


Pair on the left are the Viberg. On the right is a 45 year old pair of Pierre Paris Lite Cruisers from my days as a boom rat. The Paris boots were originally drive in caulks, but when drive in caulks became hard to find, I had them resoled for screw ins.

 

No chain scars on the boots, but since Woodwidow bought me this cordless chainsaw for Christmas last year, I have nailed the fallers pants twice, never even got close while using production saws!

 

Would they work on the steep grassy slope pictured below or would the caulk boots still be a safer bet?

 

From experience! The older style drive in caulks worked much better in snow. The types with the screw in caulks supply too much metal surface for the snow to adhere to; especially wet snow!

 

Went to the store to pick up another bag of the Stabilicer replacement spikes and the sales guy showed me these "microspikes":

I like them much better than the Stabilicers, much more traction, easier to put on, the spikes look like they will last longer/not rip out...we will see.
