So I started looking for a sled or cart to pull logs outbof the woods. We have about 7 acres of land we can take from. We are taking standing dead and trees that are down right now. Some are a couple hundred feet in. I saw the Viking sport sled and thought I'd see if anyone had the same idea.
Yep - there's a bunch of guys here who do it that way. It can be really simple and homemade too. Think I'm going to DIY something.
I did the hick thing and went to the local farm and ranch supply store and bought a calf sled. Not sure if this Viking thing is like that or not. I like it because it has higher sides and is made of heavy poly so it is light and sturdy. Made a makeshift lanyard and use a deer drag harness so I can put my weight...which there is plenty of...into pulling and havemy hands free.
Will you be hauling on snow or bare ground? If on snow, I've discovered a sled under the front end does a good job of keeping that end from digging in... but, is a real problem if the log wants to roll while being pulled. Flips the sled over perty easy.
Should work fine. If hooking to a snow machine , use a rigid tongue, not a rope Search "cargo sleds" Lots to choose from
I built one that's almost twice the size of the one in Bogydave's picture, wood with a tin bottom and two angle irons as runners. Works great with the snowmobile. Unfortunately I don't have any pics on my phone they are on the laptop....
Don't know what they want, depends on the model Nephew has one. Made in Fairbanks Shipping charges might be a scare Not cheap , but they are tough, roll a whole moose in there & take it home Send them an email. http://www.northernsledworks.com/Northern_Sled_Works-Contact.html
That's called a Jet Sled. Same thing as BDs. I just cut the rear off and added plywood and tie downs on the flat floor area to support heavy logs.
