Father in law and I hung this stand on Sunday on the extra 10 acres I just bought. Well, yesterday I decided to sit it and see if anything came through and it was a good choice. I shot him first from 5 yards basically straight down from the stand, and spined him. He drug himself to 35 yds and I finished him off. Shot him with an Assenheimer Recurve 64" 60 lbs @ 28" Thunderhead broad heads.
That is a beeeeuuuuut! You guys do get some bucks out there. Nice job with the twang stick too! After you kill a nice buck like that, do you play a tune on the recurve as a celebration?
Haha nope! Just sharpen the broad heads back up and practice for next year! Still gonna get a doe, but prob wait for the the Hawken late season.
Fantastic buck, Stickbender! Now I know where your username comes from! I hunted for quite a few years with my recurve, still have it for fun but it's not really in condition to be hunted with anymore....starting to show it's age. For most guys I know, that's the buck of a lifetime here in the central PA mountains, to get one like that with a recurve is just off the charts if you ask me!
I shot one close to his size two years ago and though I wouldn't shoot another one like that for sometime. Then this big boy comes rolling by! I really thought I wouldn't get much hunting since we just had our first child last Wednesday. Things were quite at the homestead so I slipped out for an evening hunt, and it turned out to be a great hunt.
And a great hunt it was! Congrats! I keep trying to rush home and grab my bow. But it sits unused this year With the snow and cold snap around here, it's. Good time to be in stand.
A friend I let hunt here on my farm has taken more deer with his bow then a gun.. The bow makes it exciting! If they take our ammo I know I can still use the bow! Can you imagine hiding out protecting your homestead shooting arrows.. No noise and people getting hit... I think that would freak someone out even if they had a gun, not knowing where the next arrow is coming from...they'd be gone!
