I have never owned a ported saw so I am excited to try it out. The price seemed right also but I just barely got it and was biting my fingernails for about 30 minutes I would like to run it side by side with my 357XP just as a comparison and which ever one I like less is gonna hit the road
Does your 357 have a muffler mod? If it does and is tuned right, it might just out cut this ported 555.
I don't quite know what to expect. There is a whole 30 some page thread on the build for this saw however it seemed like at the end the consensus was the 562 was still stronger even with all the work. This is going to be interesting and will probably be a hard decision in the end. It has one heck of muffler mod performed by MWEBA and is tuned up well. It runs great and I haven't really found many saws that I have liked better than it so far except for Kevin's 562!
Posted the specs on the two saws below and I'm not sure what to think considering the 357 has a muffler mod and the 555 has some serious work done to it. This should be fun 555 Specs Displacement: 59.8cc Power Output: 4.3HP Max Power Speed: 9600rpms Torque Max: 3.51Nm/6100 rpm 357 Specs Displacement: 56.5cc Power Output: 4.4HP Max Power Speed: 9600rpms Torque Max: 3.4Nm/6600rpm
That was a nice snag and his price was pretty good too! Did he mention why popup over cut squish band?
I have a 357xp that I ported and a stock 562xp w/muff mod. I like em both, but the 357 is faster. I'm building another 357 right now.
For general firewood cutting, this should be the perfect saw.. Great balance, weight, and power. I just read that entire thread today. Took almost 1.5 hours. Then I seen the for sale ad.. But yiu must have snuck in with a PM. Merry Christmas (early) bud!! Looking forward to pics once you get it.. Action pics!!
Gonna run a 20" bar and chain for right now. I need to check my 357 but for the life of me I can't remember if it is a small mount or not...... I am hoping I can swap the bar and chain between those two saws for a good comparison.
You run a full chisel chain? Yea that'd make a true test My guess is they are going to be real , real close
I need to order a new chain I'm thinking semi chisel but could be persuaded to order something different. Sweet now I don't have to go to the garage when I get home! Thanks!
A full chisel is impressive, if you've never cut with one RS3 or LPX has a reduced kick-back safety hump & is a lot faster cutting . Very noticeably faster Give it a try. (persuade persuade ) 1st time I used one,, WOW.
I do have some full chisel that is getting worn but I heard the semi chisel is a bit more forgiving to dirt than the full chisel. I thought that may be a useful feature on these log loads . I am definitely no expert on chains so any input is welcome.
Yea dirty wood is tough on full chisel but it's gonna dull a semi chisel too. Just not as fast. If you mostly cut pretty dirty wood, semi is the way to go. But if just occasionally cutting dirty wood, I'd go full chisel. LGX held up real well for me this year, 8 cord & only sharpened 4 times.
