Just wondering if anyone else has a dog that cries out at night like its having a nightmare? We have a black lab mix that my wife rescued from the pound that will routinely wake us up with what I can only describe as nightmares. He will have them every couple nights . He came from an abused home but he is the most mild mannered faithful dog I know of. Just glad my wife saved him so we could give him a good home.
All 3 of my Labs "dream". They run, bark, and growl etc. in their sleep. Normal for Labs..............and probably Lab mixes now!!!
I have two boxers that definitely have vivid dreams, not sure I would call it nightmares though. They run in their sleep, make little groaning noises and some mild barking.
Its definitely a nightmare...he will cry out like he's hurt. The other dogs have normal dreams to lesser degree and its not like that.
My dog was a mess when I took her in. Welts and had the collar growing into her neck. It took about 8 years before she wouldn't flinch when a man wanted to pet her head. She was the sweetest dog I have ever met in my life. It may take awhile for your dog to get over the nightmares or he may never grow out of it. Just keep loving him. Oh, and I miss her like crazy. I think Dec. 5th will be the one year anniversary.
Our gentle, innocent, trusting Vizsla got out over a 12' snowdrift that covered the fence and was lost for 5 days in subzero temps. I have no doubt she had nightmares when she got home. It was sad to watch so we would wake her up to let her know she was safe at home. That was almost a year ago and she no longer does that. God Bless you gave that poor pup a kind hand and home
Agree, we had a Lab/Husky mix that "dreamed" all the time...feet and legs moving slightly and wimpering in his sleep. He would wake up with that "What?" look on his face and we would laugh!
Dogs dream, so funny to see my dogs act like they were after a squirrel. Never know just what they are thinking. My dogs also bark at an antique mantel clock. I took it from the living room and put it in our bedroom. Now they bark at it in there. Not wound up now. Cats don't seem to mid it atall.
Our dog dreams as well. Funniest thing I've seen a dog do while sleeping was when our last dog let one rip loud enough to scare himself awake
The Bear dreams all the time. Usually accompanied by a foot chase as well. Actually quite comical. The worst is when he is really tuckered out and the snoring starts............sometimes to the point that the volume gets turned up on the TV.
We have 2 rescues that were the same way. One of them still is and it's been 9 months. When we first took them in ( at 2 months old) they would yelp and cry in their sleep EVERY night. It lasted for about 6 months. The nightmares have stopped but you still can't touch one of them.
When Cricket was a year old she was so sick we thought we would lose her. For about year after that, she would have nightmares in her sleep. It seems to have gone away now. the other two don't do it at all.
That's ok as long as it isn't another mouth to feed. It is just a very old clock. I wondering if it is the finish on the clock, or maybe the coloring of clocks face. I don't feel anything around it. Animal behavior isn't always understood.
My lab does it all the time. What might sound like a whimper or whin may just be a bark that isn't fully formed. Probably dreaming of chasing wabbits.
My dogs have barked at their reflection in the window from across the room, wonder if they are catching a glimpse of themselves in the face or finish?
