    Would it ever.

But, draft will kill your expectations quickly. My father in-law has a Hearthstone Heritage. It was one of the main reason I bought one since I knew exactly what that stove was like. I thought I was going to be sitting pretty with that stove. But poor insulation will suck the excitement right out of you real fast. I am so glad I bought used stoves to get me to this point before I bought the new 30. I would have lost so much money buying new.

So anyway Jeff, nice stove, and I like the new house pic.
    Sorry for the hijack.:(

Lit it up at 14:00, inside temp 45°, outside 28°, sunny and windy. First load was all cherry, and stove top never got over 550°. Reloaded at 21:00, just enough coals, with red and white oak, inside temp 60°. Currently 64° on the thermostat, stove top choochin' at 650°. Looks like I'll be sleeping in the living room, where it is considerably warmer

Not sure on the walls, but the attic looks like R19 batts. The original part of the house is a modular. The walls are probably basic 2x4/R13 (or R11, it's from the 60s). The windows need replacing in the near future.

I don't know if this stove could do it alone or not. Maybe once everything is warmed up, it could probably maintain. I caved when I woke up, and turned the furnace on.

    Ok, you're fired.
Turn in your FWHC card,.... right now. Disperse all remaining firewood to more deserving members (me), and go back to dino fuel.
The way our attic is done, I'll need to pull all the insulation out, then redo. R-11 if I'm lucky, and R-19 to start where I'm redoing.
I'm in process as we type. I sealed up a little more in the stove room, and maybe it's the butt dyno thing, but it seems to be helping already.

In Michigan shouldn't you be shooting for at least r49 in the attic?

    Absolutely BBar.
I'd rather go from R-11 (maybe) to R-19 in most of the house, than to R-49 in less of the house.
    I think.
It's about the crawling around in the attic, so I may just try to get the levels up as high as possible as I go so as to not need to revisit those areas.
    I'm debating with myself.

I may start another thread on insulation issues. I don't like that I've jacked Jeff's thread.

My first year on the main floor of the house with the Smoke Dragon (big box Garrison One 3.0 cu. ft box) replaced by WS Fireview. I'm loving it!

I am also heating 1600 sq ft. and the Fireview is not even breathing hard with this 30ish weather we're having here on the New Hampshire/Ma border. Nice thing is I'm using less wood, have more control and Mama isn't complaining about being toasted out of the living room. Just keeping this nice mid-range heat, peaking at 550, and then crusing at ~450 or slightly less all night long.

Last night I came down at 2AM and there was just barely a small red smoulder in the firbox that was still full of splits, I put in at 10:00PM before bed. I looked up into the cat and it was a big red bright orange sq.. and the stove top was 438'F with the IR. it felt like FREE HEAT! Right now wall opposite the stove is 77'F and in the far end of the house it's farthest wall, down a hall, is 67'F. STT is 298'F with enough coal chunks glowing to take me to dinner time from the refresh I did this morning.

I'd prolly be just as happy with a PE, BK, Englander or T5 I'm sure, the main point is the right size with a modern heater. CAT or secondary burn would prolly not even matter as much as just being gone from that Smoke Dragon.

Definitely a couple $Gs I coulda' used elsewhere, but I'm glad I did it.

I had a chitload of coals and a sorta solid remnant from a big split when I got up at 7 this morning. Temp was still around 300 or so. I opened the air up and tossed a couple soft maple sticks on top to finish the morning.

Headed home now, won't get to play with it for another month or two.

Glad to hear you are getting along well with your stove. I gotta say I love my PE T6. Great burn times by the way.

Yeah, it's a great stove! I have never had an issue with this thing and it keeps up well even when the temps are well below 0° outside! I have never had a complaint with it at all and my wife loves it so you know what they say...... Happy wife = happy life :)!

How are you getting along with yours? Last I heard you were happy with it?

Still working well here.. Burning large splits works best in milder weather which I always forget! Smaller splits equal crazy hot fires and once I remember this all is well.. :)

Definitely able to keep up now. Took some help from the furnace for a few hours, but I don't think the furnace has run much since Friday night. Below zero to teens outside, 70s-80s inside, 10+ hour burns.

Maybe the added insulation on the roof helps

I wish I could have pulled that snow down, but after I got the place opened up Friday, I had to go home on Saturday for work. Temps on Saturday were up into the mid 30s, then took a nose dive Sunday. So, after I got back yesterday, it is about impossible to do anything with it. I'm not too concerned about the load at the moment, but I don't know how much more I want to add. Why anyone would build a 3/12 roof here is beyond me, but it is what it is.

Dave, you are facing the same thing we had when we had the old Ashley. We were never warm once the cold air settled in and burned at least 6 cord per year. One year I recall burning 7 1/2 cord. That was a really cold winter! We also used to close off part of the house in winter months and also ran an electric heater in the bathroom before anyone dared take a shower. What to do? We shopped and talked.

As you well know, we bought the Woodstock Fireview.
    Woodstock Fireview.jpg
So what happened? We quit closing off part of the house right away. We cut our wood needs from 6 cord or more to 3 cord. (One winter was less and one was just a tad over 3.) Not only did we quit closing off parts of the house but we no longer run that electric heater in the bathroom. We keep the house around 80 degrees all winter long. House is usually between 75-80 when we get up in the morning. We do this with about a 2 cu ft firebox. It still amazes me that this small of a stove will heat like it does.
