Its been a snow free Fall to date but probably time to get my ash in gear and get some splitting done.
It takes me an hour - hour and a half to split a cord. There's about 7 cord there. Shouldn't take me more than 2 weeks
I woke up to the same scene this morning (not the unsplit wood, but around 1 1/2" of snow!! Yes, you'd better get your butt in gear!!!
I'm looking out the window at a few snow flakes falling Wow a chord per hour, takes me at least half a day to CSS a chord
I split and toss over the bank...those fresh splits you see in the foreground are about 10' below the splitting beam. Without the rounds piled that close and the exit being a simple toss, I wouldn't be able to maintain that rate.
Yep, that's about 1/3 my time, and I really can't go much faster. Maybe it's my splitter...yeah, that must be it. I'll go with that. I split straight into a trailer, then the trailer to the stacks. Breaks up the monotony.
Aint that the truth...this was first week of December 3 years ago and thats a 12/12 roof. I have a lot of respect for the guys who live up on the Tug and get the real snow.
I bet your neighbors give you crap about that view! But hey, they don't understand the work involved! Lol
A good idea to get your arse in gear! Might get a real winter this year. Good working temperature. Get-r-Done
I woke up to the same scene all summer I finally got around to splitting my massive pile of beech, ash, maple, cherry, pine and box elder. It's almost done. You will feel like a god when it's done and your in your chair unable to move from the pain looking at the awesome job you did
About 3 inches on the ground this morning and got into almost a white out on the road to my first destination. Oh and I still have splitting to do and haven't moved my cord to the patio yet. Got a small rack covered by the door though.
There is a reason I try to get my cutting & splitting done in the spring, summer & fall. Once the snow hits, I like to stay inside. (It's a blessing to have a shop to hide out in.) I can do better with the heat than the cold.
I usually have all my splitting done in the spring but I just hauled too much last year and I just will not split in the summer.
