She asked why the oven was warm when she got home The wood is either sourwood or blackgum/tupelo. The remaining rounds didn't split like the other blackgum I've split so I'm inclined to believe it is sourwood
Are you going to use the tenon cutters on the ends of the legs? The deer were popular around here back in the 1980's. It seemed like everyone had them. They were mostly made of birch logs with longer skinnier legs and body. The antlers were birch branches thinned of the smaller stuff. Edit: I just checked your dimensions and they look good.
I think that I'll finally use the tenon cutters. We used wood that we had down so it will be made from Hemlock. It won't look anything like the picture.
Still contemplating if I want a deep gloss with an epoxy resin or just wax them - I'll probably do a test run of each. They checked pretty bad in the oven - nothing some epoxy won't fill
I have two walking sticks that need staining, this is some Blue Beech that I took the bark off of tonight.
Well, I sent these out yesterday via USPS to my sister in Syracuse, she received them today. She likes them so that was good to hear.
