My little Jotul gas stove in my basement. I also have had a Regency, Hearthstone Homestead, WS Fireview, WS Keystone, and a BK Princess on that hearth.

This was a while ago we talked about a plexiglass backing behind the wood rack to protect the wall, but here's a picture of what I did. Works awesome... just a piece of 1/8" thick clear plexiglass cut to size, screwed into the wall at the corners. No more marring on the wall from splits. And, you don't have to be "careful" loading the wood rack, just throw the wood in, it hits the wall (plexiglass) and there's no marks. ;)

I pulled the woodrack away from the wall for the picture....

The only time my home of 20 years looked like that was after we put it on the market.

Mine is so boring compared to some of yours. A lot of super nice stoves and installs. Here is my lowly fireplace as I moved in:

only before pic i have, sorry...relax, its just a 22...lol

After my first cord of slabwood in a week, and drawing all the heat out of the house... I struggled with oil heat and slabwood my first winter, then started looking for a suitable insert.. I got the biggest I could fit in the zero clearance space. The inspector was impressed with the install. Wanted everything legit incase.. just incase...

So being a broke homeowner that struggled through the winter, I looked, and looked and looked some more until my eyes bled. I couldn't afford a nice 2500 dollar insert and didn't want to cut more holes in the house to put in a freestanding stove... I found the gem on CL for 400 bucks. Couple year old Lopi Freedom.

I redid it, new firebrick, POR20 heat resistant black and polished the brass back to what it once was. It didn't turn out too shabby.

so the install began...double insulated 6" SS liner inside of an 8" double insulated flue.

loaded it with the tractor into the house on a furniture dolley... the dolley is the exact height the finish install would be....

I left all the factory Fireplace sheet metal and firebrick crap there and made a box frame for the stove to sit on top of for more clearance and air gap from everything since it is a zero clearance install and not regular brick chimney. I made a slab from an old hearth to sit underneath the stove between the sheet metal frame of the FP and the metal frame under the stove that I built. sheet metal cut and everything sealed. no finished pics of the 2x3 frame welded up.

two more 3x8" slabs for front support, and rubber underneath to protect the tile.

Nice to see this thread get "bumped" back into circulation........

My lovely wife turns 40 today, we had some family shots taken in our hearth room.....this pic is of the NZ3000, and shows the scale of the fireplace....I'm 5'11", you can see how big the hearth is with us standing in front of it....
