I have a 45 gallon Superstor and the downspout on the T & P valve is leaking. I'm pretty sure it's a bad T & P valve and not an issue with anything else. Do I have to drain the tank before I can replace this?
Did you replace it yet? I can't offer advice but I am curious now too. I wonder if @campinspector would know?
campinspecter says that if you can catch the water to open the valve and let the water run for 5 to 10 secs. It may clean the valve seat and quit leaking afterwards. If it works, then you won't have to change the valve.
Turns out I don't have to replace the T & P. My plumber had installed a heat pump water heater awhile back and I guess when he did it isolated part of the system so that the water had nowhere to go but out the T & P valve on the Superstore. He's going to install an expansion tank at no cost to me. He came out to look at it after I told him what was going on. It really is very nice and refreshing to come across a tradesman with such integrity. If anyone ever needs the name of a great plumber in south/southeast NH just let me know.
