Just have some AudioQuest and then I found this guy I posted a link to. RCAs for $50 a meter. Balanced cables for $60 a meter. Good enough for me. I'm not sure if a person could really tell with those high dollar cables selling for several thousand. Big markup on those, and I think it's a vanity thing at some point for people who have so much money they are just looking to burn it.

For a while I was getting into fancy cables, and made up a set of homebrew braided speaker cables from Cat5 stock. But i coulnt ehar the difference and just went back to cheap stuff. I dont go too cheap (no RS) but keep it budget - like the cheapest AQ stuff.

I did a lot of reading, and got into doing some of the work, did the rebuild on the 240. But you do need to have a bit of a comfort factor working around 400 volts DC if you are giong to attempt it, not for the careless. And there is

Yeah, nice to see other tube heads here. Acres of tube amps around here, between bass amps, guitar amps, stereo amps, mic amps, and so on. Once the short days are here I spend a lot of time soldering on those things trying to keep 'em running. BTW, my Dynacos are MKIVs, basically half of the ST70. I run KT66 in those. Here's a typical winter night at the dining room table. I'm obviously single! LOL.

Great stuff. I've been a audio gear guy since '69, but never had the money to get much above the mid range stuff.. which is still where I am, but I have a kickass vinyl collection and it is in pristine condition.

I am an EE and since I got that degree in the days when I got to take one course in And and Or gates before I graduated.. it was all about analog back then. I worked for New England Tel for a few years and taught course in basic electronics. Now that I'm retired I have had a couple of record dealers I'm friendly with approach me to help them refurb estate finds they make with a share of the profits. I'm tempted. It turns out the record dealers here in and around the suburb of Boston (I used to work in the HH Scott building on Powder Mill Rd in Maynard once DEC purchased it in the early 80s) work with estate dealers. The area is ripe with people that had enough money to buy top end gear. The estate dealers sell him all the vinyl, but force them to take the audio equipment as well. These guys don't even want the audio gear because it's not the easy sale thing the records provide. Takes too much time testing and refurbing the gear. ..anyway.. I'm tempted as it could help fund my motorcycle addiction.

Jeremy, I have one guy he doesn't throw anything out, but he let's stuff that doesn't work go pretty cheap, because he can't fix it.. and doesn't want to learn.

I was eyeing a old Mac tuner the other day that doesn't work, but there are lots of tubes in it.. and I don't listen to FM anymore.

I'm looking to build a couple of vintage systems for my adult kids. A TT and Receiver and some nice bookshelf speakers.

I've got my original KLH Model 5s I bought a week out of college, for $500 and they are perfect, but they are inefficient, and too big for them. But I keep poking around..

Here is my curerent 'shoulder season' amp. It draws 500w, puts out a bit of heat. There is no way I could use this in the summer. Bit industrial looking, the chassis is from an old rack mount computer. It won't win a beauty contest. 16 x 6AS7G/6H13C, a pair of 6FQ7 and 4 12AT7 fill it up.

Not sticking my hands in there while it is on.

Sweet, I would love to hear how those sound !

LOL, my better half (not married) hates the way my Klipsch Forte's look and take up space. But she LOVES the way they sound.

About a month ago, I changed the crossovers with new Bob Crites as well as the tweeter diaphragms to Crites Titanium. When I was done and all hooked up again, I put in Sully Erna's Avalon CD and called her in to the living room. The sound stage really opened up again and she did not believe me that the center speaker was not on. It was running in Pure Direct. After I had her put her ear to the center speaker, she could not believe the sound and imaging.

After reading this thread, I have got to resurrect my turntable. Unfortunately time is short these days.

Nice set up Branson! One day I will get around to putting my Denon tt back into the system, have not spun vinyl in a long time. I'm currently stuck between a rock & a hard place....in the living room we watch movies and was contemplating getting a pre with HT pass thru to enjoy 2 channel on a better amp in there vs. the avr but now I'm thinking about selling the pool table in the game room(hardly use it anymore) and setting up dedicated 2 channel rig in there. On the one hand I really want to do this but I feel I'll have sellers remorse once the pool table is gone. I need another room on this house!!

Here's a system I'm putting together for the dining room. I have a pair of bookshelf speakers moved from the home theater / main system. I had this parasound preamp sitting idle, bought a used adcom 100 wpc, a music hall cd player moved from my work system, a monster cable power conditioner i'm bidding on ebay, and cables by signalcable.com where I have found great aftermarket cables for a reasonable price.

A pair of Magnepan MMG I had idle are replacing these bookshelf speakers for the surrounds. These are terrific little bookshelf speakers (too good for surrounds) and the MMG's are more useful where quality doesn't matter and Maggies look really cool anyway standing in a room as opposed to not being used.
