Guided for 5 pheasants hunters today at a small local hunting preserve. The guys wound up with 21 birds of the 35 released. Could've been maybe 24/25, but they were pretty fair shots and were safe around me and my dogs. Here's the aftermath.................they're happy though...................
We are getting a storm the next day and a half so I took the hounds on an extra long hike this am, lots of snoring right now.
Yep, they had a blast, ask them tomorrow, bet they'd be jumping at the chance to go again ! Pictures worth 1000 words I take it duck Chaney wasnt' one of them LOL
Very nice pictures and story. Thanks for sharing. My male chocolate lab came from a line of AKC champions. He father had several awards. But my boy gets the award for not letting the couch get away. Not his fault. I don't hunt and can't walk much. He is a very good friend. My black lab is very interested in hunting. She will explore about everything around the house. Very smart lab.
I talked with a champion Brittany breeder once that said the best of the best are also house dogs/companions. It appears yours are!
I love it. Dogs live for that. Back in the 60's Douglas County IL, where I live, was featured in Field & Stream and Outdoor Life as one of the hotspots in the nation for pheasants. We had a had a "hay day" for many years here. I remember my bird dogs at the end of the day looking just like that. Wonderful times!
One of her last hunts. This lil lady pointed, held, and flushed AND retrieved! I think it was pheasant and chukkar. She wanted to hunt so bad but her lil body was wearing out.
2nd to her last hunt. The sage grouse weighed more than she did so her bottom kept tipping up She was upset when they called it a night and tried to run away, she was going to hunt all by herself, even though she was spent for the day, she only got a few hundred yards from the camper.......
In my OP, there's the picture of my BLM (black Lab male)..................he's 10.5yo now, and starting to slow down a bit. He still has all the tools that God gave him and that I trained into him..................but the body is getting old now. I really have to watch how long I use him, and in the temperatures also.
