Welcome to the "Best Dang Hoardin'" site going. We have a awesome family of "woodies" here who love to discuss their passion for making smoke.
It depends on the winter, but it is almost always around 6-7 cords. When I am using the Clayton, I go through 24-30 splits per day - but it is also heating both floors of my house comfortably, so it's a good exchange. The Clayton is in the basement and is a true wood furnace tied into the ductwork. My Jotul is on the main floor of my ranch home.
Welcome, Thundar. I also have a Monster Maul but now I keep it locked up in the shed. My body doesn't like it anymore.
Thanks guys! I truly LOVE burning wood, and LOVE cutting, splitting, and stacking. I look forward to enjoying the winter with some wood burning junkies like myself! I attached a picture of my hearth and Jotul in action this morning.
No....wish I did. I am fortunate to have a connection at my local sawmill...I get 20-30 "metal logs" (logs the saw rejects for having some defect - it could be metal, but I rarely hit a nail) delivered to my place. The sawmill is just over the hill, so it only costs me $60. I am fortunate.
Thundar, welcome aboard. You obviously have a good handle on the whole thing. VERY nice hearth. So, you know Cert, eh? Hmmm.
Welcome aboard fellow Buckeye! I'm new here as well and lots of nice folks on here. Looks like you have your priorities in order and have a nice setup and tools to do so. That has always been my plan to try to improve the "system" every year.
Welcome aboard Thundar. Sweet price on the logs! I have a question about them, though-just curious. Are the logs still whole or are they partially milled when they are rejected? $60 for 20-30 sounds just like my kinda price.
Welcome to the family! That hearth is very artistic. The floor is Very distinctive. You sure have house heating in good control.
Welcome to the big show Thundar! ... Pull up a Beer and have a chair We all know you have a problem thats why your here, ... But so are we .. Enjoy and stick around, it just gets more fun
The logs are whole...every once in a while a log will have one cut, but 95% of the time they are whole.
Welcome to the forum Thundar. We could use a few more Ohio guys on here.... What a great deal you have on your logs too!
Welcome to the forum Thundar. Sounds like you are on the way toward the 3 year plan. For sure if you are burning oak, you should be on a 3 year rotation. You'll also see me doing some picking on the guys who use t-posts. Those are meant for building fences rather than holding wood stacks!
Beautiful hearth & jotul! And that's about the best wood arrangement I've ever heard of. Welcome aboard!
