Internet connection driving me crazy

The speed is inconsistent, I have it running right for now but been having trouble sinse Sunday .
I almost went and bought a new router , cuz when I hard wired it it was working great ,I but don't think that is it.
Download speed goes from 35mbps down to 0.22 mbps
anyone else ever have problem like this?

 

I have internet service through my cable provider. So far so good (knock on wood)
What kind of ISP do you have HD?

 

I have had that problem with many wireless n routers.

yes I think it is still possible that it is the router problem,, is getting kind of old it is a Belkin Wireless N

 

Same as me. Maybe you should have someone from Comcast come out?

 

I have been screwing around with it all day
been running right for an hour now that's pretty good

During the middle of the night I might get 1.75 meg down and 500k up. During prime time I'm lucky to get 500k down and 128k up. All the joys of using a wireless ISP on the fringe of their coverage area.

But I don't have any data cap.

I'd probably break down and cry if a cable or DSL provider wanted to service my area.

 

Wow I thought I had it bad when I was only getting 15 20 mbps
I am used to these speeds and I pay extra for it, so i want it to work right

 

Sometimes I unplug modem, router & computer for a while then start back up.
+
Delete cookies & history, basic clean up.
Seems to help.

 

Yeah I did all that stuff Sunday.
Might try to update my firmware on the router

 

I should have done this sooner but I found the problem.
I bypassed the 3 Way splitter outside and it's working great now , instantly fixed , all I need is a new 3 Way splitter

 

New splitter all hooked up, rockin and a rollin now I'm getting download speeds I'm supposed to get 50 to 60 mps.
Download a movie and two and a half minutes

 

Ive been fighting with our wireless fora while. I was playing with the advanced settings this mrning and it made a noticable differnece doing this in the advanced settings:

• Turning off auto channel detect and manually picking a channel without much noise (use a phone wifi analyzer app to see which channels are in use)
• Setting the protocol to 802.11n ONLY (make sure all your devices are compatible)
• Setting channel bandwidth to 40MHz only (rather than 20/40 auto)

Night and day difference in speed. Only downside is the 40MHz setting hurt range a bit. Im looking at getting an extender.

 

I use to manually pick a channel and Set the protocol to 802.11n ONLY, on my other router and it made a difference ,the one I have now it doesn't matter .
Do you have a big house ? A range extender might help .
My house isn't that big so, no problem there .
My router sits on a shelf 6.5 ft off the floor ,works good up there

 

Small house (1400sq) but we have two massive interior brick chimneys that block signal. I did start researching range extenders....

 

Oh I see, no brick here .
If you put the extender in the right place It should help a lot
