562XP recent purchase

    Hey guys,

    This is my first post on the forum.
    I started cutting firewood for my parents when i was 14 using my dads ms 270c

    I just moved into a house that has a Daka wood furnace for heat. I borrowed my Dad's 270 to cut this winters wood supply but I'm sick of having to borrow his saw all the time so i scraped together enough cash and bought a 562xp yesterday.

    The new saw will be arriving on Saturday. Any tips from you old timers out there with lots of experience with husky saws? I want this saw to last me 20+ years.

    Run it like you stole it, no babying necessary. Run the mix heavier than the factory specifies, at least 40:1 if not 32:1. Keep sharp chain on it and you will have no trouble getting 20 years out of it.

    I agree with all that. Just don't rev the snot out of it when it is out of the wood (not cutting).

    Welcome to FHC! :thumbs: Goodsaw you've got. You'll really like the Autotune function, at least I do...:D... Like MasterMech said mix the oil at a 40:1 or go 32:1. A little more oil is always better than not enough...good luck and also pictures are always welcomed....:D

    thx for the tips about the oil mix I'll definitely follow that. BTW why do the oem's recommend such a low ratio in the first place?

    562 Top of the list of my dream saw. Nice :yes:

    Just cut this winter's wood supply ?
    Not much seasoning time for it, eh? What types of wood?

    Now that you have saw on the way, you should break it in getting next years wood in soon.
    Get it split & stacked. Most wood takes at least full year to season, oak takes 2 or 3.
    Dead standing, the upper parts of the tree might be pretty dry if you can find some.

    Have an old Husqy 61, 30+ years old still running.
    Run good fresh fuel, a few minutes of service/cleaning after a days cutting . It'll last a long time :)

    Looking forward to pictures of a pile of wood & wood chips :)

    It is pretty late to be cutting but most of the wood is standing ash that's been dead for 2-3 years.
    The ash trees here in Indiana died 2-3 years ago and a lot of them are still standing and quite dry.

    I'm looking forward to getting out with my new saw through the rest of this year to get ahead for next years supply!

    Yea , for sure
    I've burned stuff that was 2 months seasoned.
    Made lots of creosote over the years.

    Feels good to be ahead now & be burning well seasoned wood.

    A new 562 will make the fun of it, even funner
    Still hard work, but fun hard work :)

    splitoak I always use ear and eye protection when cutting. Also steel toe boots and leather gloves. I've never worn chaps though. Are there any budget friendly chaps that still get the job done?

    bogydave I hope to have next years wood cut by the end of december this year.

    DexterDay sounds like your almost as impatient as I am for my saw to arrive. once it does I'll put pics up.

    Well, I have been running my 562 at 50:1 since my second gallon; it's 2 years old and probably only 20 cords or so. No problems, but based on reading some other posts on FHC, I think I'll bump the oil up to 40:1.
