I thought I had it memorized.... Do I need a few small fires or one hot one?
    Thanks!

Couple of small ones at first, let the stove cool a bit before the next fire. Just heat the paint, let it cure, and go from there.

    +1
Try to do it on a fairly warm day.
Even with a small fire, it will put of some odor, might need to ventilate the room/house.
Even new stove pipe will give off some smoke & nasty odor.

I see in your signature you got rid of the BK insert
    Pellet stove ?

Yep, just a small kindling fire, let it burn out and let the stove cool.
Do it again, but a little hotter.
Then, start having fires. Every time you hit a new temp plateau, you'll notice some smell.
Or, there may be instructions in the manual.:picard:
It stops after a few years or so....right about the time you need a new stove. :rofl: :lol:J/K:D

Thanks! LOL dear husband is looking for smoke coming out of the chimney....we have never had an EPA stove:whistle: We could see the smoke while starting a fire in our old smoke dragon. He was finally satisfied after seeing the logs glowing through the glass. We have never had glass before either:rolleyes: LOL he just went back to that room to see how its burinng!

The newer stoves are just pretty darn sweet after burning the old ones. Good luck and tell the hubby enjoy looking at the fire through the glass instead of looking for that smoke trail outside. I still look for the smoke myself though even after all year last year with the new cat stove.

Hi Dave. The BK insert was wood with a cat. It needed more rehab than we could offer, this home was a rental for a few decades before we bought it. I bought a new cat and gaskets for it but we threw the towel in after pulling it to install a chimney flex liner. The result is that it was used and abused, check out my pic of the cat :picard: #16 post in the thread http://firewoodhoardersclub.com/forums/threads/limping-old-blaze-king-thru-1-more-winter.5749/

I am too late   . He did a small fire, but has since been outside for more wood and is running it medium hot, the stove has not cooled down inbetween. The paint smell is far less than stove bright we used in the past  For better or worse on the fast paint cure, he is pleased with the heat coming out of a much smaller stove!

OK. Read the thread & saw the ugly pics
Out with the old, in with the new

    From the forecast
Seems it'll be putting out heat just in time.
    Impeccable timing !

    Stay warm :)

Congratulations on the new stove. Enjoy the glass and the longer burn times :)

Gonna be a while before you can air
    out house.
Cold weather is forecast to hang around
    a while.
When you get a 40° day, get a good hot fire to finish the paint curing
with some open doors & windows.

    I hate that smell !
Boil some cut up lemons :)

Thanks Dave, high of 7* tomorrow :shiver:, I have the cooktop vent on low to move some air.... I don't have lemons, but my husband simmered a delicious pot on beef stew all evening (delicious, ate too much). PS, we are also burning a large pellet stove, no worries :handshake:

We ended up getting an Englander insert. The fireplace opening limited our choices :headbang: we will evaluate it again this spring, hoping this new EPA stove will do well for us, as we spent a bundle to get it and installed safely (neglected chimney, reline, and stove) and I hope we don't have to spend more $$. It's only been one night since installed and running so we are still experimenting with heat output and the intake lever. Nice to meet you :handshake:.
