I've been stuck here before. Stayed with friends and/or the Boss. I could do the loop and go over Berthoud Pass, but that's a 3 hr. trip to get me 32 miles as the crow flies.
Made it home. It got iffy close to the tunnels, but at 11K it's always iffy. Still have guys stuck in Vail, that section of the highway is still shut down. 'course, they're working in the Penthouse in one of the most expensive complexes in Vail, so they're better off than if they were home. Next 5 days should be interesting.
Talking about storms in November reminded me of this For those that may not know, Lake Gitchigoomie is Lake Superior Some facts about the SS Edmund Fitzgerald http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Edmund_Fitzgerald
No storm here. Been great weather here. Warm & dry, Great day today, sunny near 50° Had some breezy days, 25 mph , with some gust at 30.
It was 82 this afternoon it is 32 here now and high winds and expected to get in the teens later tonight. What few trees we have still have green leaves and i fear there may be freeze damage.
I'm at 11" now and still coming down. Thankfully, it is not the real wet "heart attack" snow. It is still heavy and does some compacting of it's own after a few inches. Looks like most if not all the schools in the U.P. will be having a "forced observance" of Veterans Day by cancelling all classes/functions. Temps are in the 20's with only a slight wind, so no wind chill to talk about.
Ended up with around 16" or so yesterday and it slowed down/quit for awhile near bedtime. Started up again during the overnight and so far, 4"-5" with a forecast of 8"-12" throughout the day and then another 6" overnight. Already spent close to 1 1/2 hrs shoveling. Don't know why, but I always wait to fire up the snowblower...guy thing?
I've been through a few of those nasty dumpings when I lived up there. Winters can be brutal if your not prepared.
YooperDave....33 inches of snow before mid-November! I think that's about half of what we had all last winter. The rain this past Spring(what there was of it)-Summer-Autumn has made up for any lack of precip last winter. Bogydave -your lows are a good ten degrees above those forecast for us starting Thursday. Wonder if we'll have another winter with Alaska warmer than Southern Ontario? Looks like we are going to miss any real snow in the coming week, which is fine with me. The call is for flurries on Sunday, which, with the forecast temp, may actually happen. So far, all calls for flurries have been false alarms. We've had many, many cloudy days with extremely high humidity. Bet all the crazy solar installations didn't pull their weight this summer.
