I decided to hit this area just so I could see if it was sled ready, nope, but it has some nice dry dead Elm that I brought home, I split the bigger rounds, it's coming in after dinner.

I had the moisture meter with me so I tested the bigger rounds after splitting it twice.

The last pic is after I split the bigger rounds.

Nothing like walking into a dead standing (anything), debarked with only 19% MC.
Cut it up and feed the stove is as good as it gets.

I think we've only burned a few rounds of Elm since we started burning.

It's in the basement but we'll burn the Hemlock & Pine first, we'llbe pushing some more dead Elm in tomorrow that was c/s/s last year, it was barkless dead standing too.

That area has more dead Elm so I might hit it again tomorrow.

Just remember that once it is down, then it won't last as long. The most ideal time to get it is when the bark is off or at least 2/3 off. Then if you want, you can burn the top part of the tree right away.

I was thinking the m/m reading on the split would've been 25 with the next split reading 37, I was very happy that it was ready for the Liberty.

I cut some earlier this fall that looked the same but the m/m reading was 35 on the first split so it went in the stack for next year.

I cut some of that dead standing elm on Tuesday and thought for sure it would be ready right now, WRONG. I have that same exact moisture meter Zap and it read 33 %. It'll be ready for next year.

I agree. After the last load I got, I'm a fan. Real cool color when fresh cut too

Very wet when you split it though.............at least when I did just a few days after it was initially cut.

Yep, and if you get any of the bark off you can see how it gets it's name. Really slimy/slippery under there

Only downside is it's pretty smelly when fresh cut. Smells like a horse pasture
