    Morning,

I ripped into skid of stove chow i grabbed in august 2014.

    Definitely an ingredient change.

Very short pellets & color resembles 2013 presto logs very dark.

very dark isn't usually good....indicates elevated bark percentages, which tends to diminish the quality of the pellets....let us know what you are seeing burning them!

I got a couple bags from a buddy in exchange to test my Okie Gold for clinkers. Be curious how they burn for you.

I have 5 bags for testing too. Now I want to rip one open to see what they look like. I had read multiple comments that even though the PTLs were an unusually dark color one season, they had still performed just as well?

Yes....myself and others here came across PTL's that looked like black walnut or something but they burned great with low ash....I think I still might have a few bags left.

To the extent it may help, I ripped open a bag of the Stove Chows that I just got from Home Depot. Yes, they are sitting on a white piece of paper (even though it looks kinda yellow).

You're not kidding! I threw in the first bag tonight. Mind you, it's the first bag of chows I've ever burned. They are very dark, picture later. Definitely darker than the picture posted above. Can I just tell you these things are throwing blistering heat? I am floored by this! They seem nearly identical to the hardwood heats I picked up at TSC. Crazy dry and light as air. I just looked at the stove temp and its up to 500, right on par with hardwood heats and Vermonts! The only other pellet I have ever burned that outperformed this was Douggie's DFs! Holy heat batman! You may want to put your search for atomic chit on hold if you are getting similar results?

Left is AWF Hardwood, right is Stove Chow
    upload_2014-11-6_20-36-24.png

Chows at feed rate 3.5 (my normal setting) - same heat as Hardwood Heats and the best batch of Vermonts I've seen.

Chows at feed rate 4 (only other pellet that has achieved this temp in my stove is DFs, and that was at feed rate 3!)

Where on the stove do you have the thermometer located?

On the body of the stove on the same side where the control panel is located. Will post a picture so you can see right where it is.

That's about where I keep mine. I haven't had to crank my stove that high yet to see those temps.

Yes aftermarket stove pipe temp gauge. You can pick one up at any hardware store like an Aubuchons.
